Questions

Are the icons really free?

Yes. Every PNG in every style is free for personal and non-commercial projects, like a blog, slides, school work, or a hobby app. Please credit “Icons by kirupa.com”.

Can I use them for client or commercial work?

That needs Pro. Pro covers apps, client projects, ads, and merchandise, and it includes the SVG source files for every style. Compare Free and Pro.

Which sizes are there?

Pixel / 8-bit icons are drawn on 16 and 24 pixel grids, with 128 and 192 pixel enlargements. Sci-Fi, Minimal, Ukiyo-e, and Smooooth icons come as 72 and 144 pixel PNGs, and Minimal adds a light version for dark backgrounds.

How do I keep pixel art crisp?

Show it at a whole multiple of its grid, like 16, 32, or 48 pixels for the 16 pixel set, and add image-rendering: pixelated so browsers don’t blur the edges.

Where do the designs come from?

They were made for kirupa.com. Each Pixel icon was placed pixel by pixel on a 16 or 24 pixel grid, and Smooooth traces those 24 pixel drawings into soft curves. Earlier artwork that inspired some designs is credited on the License and credits page.
