The Animate Blue Circles Contest

by kirupa   |   21 February 2013

It's been a while since we had a contest, so let's fix that! This contest revolves around the only two things my world revolves around - animations and blue circles:

Besides being brought to you by the words fun, epic, and awesome, this contest is also brought to you with the support of Wacom who will be helping with the prizes.

The Rules

The rules for this contest are pretty simple:

In a HTML or Flash document, make blue colored circles move around the screen.

You have until April 1st.

Go

Ok, maybe the rules aren't that simple. Here are some more things to keep in mind.

  1. You can create your entry either in Flash or HTML / CSS / JavaScript.
  2. The circles could be vectors, images, movies, gifs, etc. The circles could be hollow with a blue outline, they could be solid, they could have both an outline and a fill, they could have a blue gradient, or they could have an opacity.
  3. Just remember, your entry CANNOT contain text / ovals / squares / triangles / or any other non-circular shape. This party is for circles only.
  4. If your entry only works in a particular browser, be sure to mention that as part of submitting your entry. In general, it would be great if your entry works in the latest version of the popular browsers and Flash runtime.
  5. Your entry needs to be in by March 31st at 11:59:59 PM PST. Ideally, you probably don't want to wait until that last moment to submit your entry.

The rules could get refined even after the contest starts, so if you have any doubts or need clarification, feel free to ask in this contest's Discussion Thread.

Submitting Your Entry

To submit your entry, go to the Animate Blue Circles forum and create a new thread with your entry:

You can submit as many entries as you want. Just make sure to create a new thread for each entry. It makes keeping track of your entries much easier.

Judging

The judging will be split into two rounds. In the first round, a handful of judges will narrow all of the entries into the Top 10. These Top 10 entries will be placed into a public poll, which will go live on April 8th, where everyone can vote to select the Top 3.

Entries will be judged on how cool the movement / animation of the circles is.

Who Are The Judges?

The list of judges hasn't been finalized yet, but that will be done over the next few weeks - definitely in time for the judging and getting the final three entries up for the public poll.

Prizes

As always, there will be awesome prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place:

The Bamboo Captures are provided by Wacom, so a great big thanks to them and Hope Hadduck for making that possible:

The cash prizes are provided by this site, and they will be sent to you via PayPal.

Have Fun

And with that, you should have everything you need to be aware off for participating in this contest. Remember, participating in this contest is entirely voluntary. I will make the final call on any disputes. While unlikely, the rules may change in the middle of the contest where you may need to resubmit a modified version of your entry. Keep on the lookout for that.

Just a final word before we wrap up. If you have a question and/or want to be part of a friendly, collaborative community of over 220k other developers like yourself, post on the forums for a quick response!
