Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Forums - Personalization
by kirupa : 18 June 2006
Along with
all of your posts, you can have the option of displaying
something creative under your name and post. The following
is an example of how I customized my posting area:
The small graphic below my name is called an
avatar, and the larger image below the text on the
right side is called a footer or signature.
You can find the links to edit your avatar
and signature in your User Control Panel located:
http://www.kirupa.com/forum/usercp.php On the left
navigation, you will see links for adding an
avatar and
signature.
-
Ensure footer's size is less than 20k.
-
Your footer's dimensions must not
exceed 300 pixels wide by 60 pixels tall (300x60)
-
Ensure the footers are appropriate in
content. Please refrain from using footers that might be
offensive to people, that contain bad language...in
other words, use your judgement.
-
Text in Footers: 2 lines of text are
allowed below or above footers. If your footer is all
text, 6 lines are allowed.
-
Footer should not be hosted on
kirupaforum via attachments, direct images, etc. unless
you are using a smiley, etc. that is part of the forums.
-
The footer area should not be used for
overly blatant sales-promotions of your business and/or
services. Links will be allowed, but placing cost
amounts will not!

If your footer does not adhere to the above guidelines, a
moderator just may comment it out and place the lovable
footer violation animation instead.
You can also customize how the forums look by selecting from
a large list of member-created styles. Styles usually change
the color and feel of the forums quite significantly, and
you can pick a style by changing your
Options in the User CP or by simply picking a
style from a list of styles found at the bottom-left of
every forum page:
Let's talk about how to use the messaging feature
on the next page!
