Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Forums - Guidelines
by kirupa : 18 June 2006
The following are topics and content definitely not
allowed on the forums under any circumstances:
- Illegal Software
You are not allowed to discuss/promote/provide illegal
software, music, warez, serial numbers, etc. on the
forums.
- Cross-Posting
Cross posting is when you post your same message in
multiple forums in order to get more people to see your
question. That isn't allowed, so you should find one
forum and post your question there once instead.
- Footer Sizes
Your footer's width and height must not exceed 300 x
60 pixels. Also, ensure your file size is also less than
15k. More guidelines with regards to footers can be
found
here.
- Threads About Religion/Politics/Etc.
Threads about religion, politics, and other
controversial/argumentative subjects will not be
allowed on the forums. There are plenty of other forums
on the web better suited to discuss those topics. These
topics only lead to endless arguments that don't serve
the best interests of this friendly, tech-oriented
community.
- Spamming
Unnecessarily posting on the forums to increase post
count, promote a website/product, etc. are not allowed.
Soliciting other members publically to signup for your
affiliate program are not tolerated either.
- Trolling / Fanboyism
While rational
discussion of any computer-related topic is appreciated
and even encouraged, but being antagonistic towards
users who have different technological views or
preferences is not allowed.
- Mac vs. PC, Windows vs.
OS X vs. Linux, Firefox vs. IE, etc.
If your thread or post attempts to stir up a discussion
along the lines of any of the above topics, your thread
will be closed.
- Flaming
Cheap, personal attacks against someone will not be
tolerated. If you can't say something constructive, don't say
anything at all.
- Inappropriate Language
The use of
inappropriate/slang/racist/sexist remarks are not
allowed. The forums have a built-in censor feature that
moderates inappropriate words with *'s. Circumventing
the censor feature with creative workarounds isn't
smiled upon.
The above guidelines are heavily enforced. The people who
help enforce the above rules and help everything to run
smoothly on the forums are the moderators. You can see a
list of them and their beautiful faces here:

The forums are more than just technical
questions and design-related conversation. There are
several, fun-related features on the kirupaForum. Read more
about it on the next page!
