College Humor and Something Awful

Now I know my way around photoshop, to say the least, and I am also completely savvy when it comes to web developers languages. But I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how Something Awful and College Humor made their titles like this. Does any one have any ideas? I'm talking about where the actual words "College Humor" and "something awful" are on the top...I can't figure it out! Any help would be very much appreciated!

I can't really tell for certain, since I can't view the source, but it could be some CSS, or something...
You can set the absoute x,y positions of divs, and things, and they can be displayed on top of other things...

Yeah, if I was at home, I would.
I don't have any menu options available to me right now, other than Text-Size, Find in page, and Full Screen. They greyed everything else out. I don't even have an address bar, or back button... heh heh.

most likely, they did this with slices, like in Fireworks, or something...

these are not CSS those are JPEG or GIF images.. you would make these using photoshop, or fireworks, and then put them in your page....

look at this text-effect tutorial for photoshop:
http://www.n-sane.net/tutorials/shinytext/index.php

a lot more tutorials are here:
http://www.n-sane.net/tutorials.php

I recomend you familiarize yourself with layer effects in photoshop.. its in the layers palette, at the bottom...

I'm not worried about how to actually make the text effect, I was just wondering if there is any clean coded way to get those positioned like that, perhaps by using and illusion. Using slices in fireworks or layers in dreamweaver is just going to be messy. Sorry for not making much sense

hand coding this type of thing might be a bit complicated.. its much easier using a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML editor, such as Dreamweaver, or Frontpage... CSS positioning can help you out, but for the most part, its easily done with HTML tables...
