Californians suck at driving

I moved to California 3 months ago cause I got a web design job here right out of college. I bought a 2010 Mazda3 and it's already been hit 5 times - all not my fault.
  1. monster truck from my apartment complex opened both his doors and dented both of mine. I had no concrete proof, so the police wouldn't file anything for me to give to my insurance.
  2. Dude hit me from behind while I was stopped in traffic. I got out and told him to pull over. The dude drove away right in front of me. It was some 300 pound fatso with a 20 year old car.
  3. 2 unexplained dents most likely from parking lots.
  4. Huge dent from a van in a parking lot. I called the police and there was conclusive evidence that the dude did it. The police called up the son. The son came back and gave me his insurance information. The dad came 5 minutes later and started swearing at me, calling me an idiot. I drove away prompty. But he's the idiot cause his insurance rate is going up.
  5. Just today, some idiot was swerving perpendicular to the parking lot lanes and cut me off. I sounded my horn and the fool just continued on his/her way without batting an eye.

I've been living in Illinois for 15 years and my entire family never got a single dent in any of our cars. We've never been hit by anyone. And why do people in California drive 65 MPH on the highway? We drive 90 in Chicago. MOVE OVER, GRANDMA! Anyone else move from the East/Central and notice how Californians suck at driving???

Maybe they're doing it right and you're wrong. Think about it.

Different driving culture you are not use to probably. With that new of a car you should be parking away from such things though.

Here in Michigan I've seen people calmly drive sidewards on a road only to straiten out and continue without even stopping. Seeing cars go off the road or hitting the sides of other cars gets pretty common place once the ice starts to come in. (then there are the idiots that figure oh guess I should stop 20 feet before the intersection only to find themselves in the middle of it looking around like oops).

California sounds boring, people denting each others cars.

In the rain in South Florida it's too common to see people hydroplane off the roads or into oncoming traffic.

I hear over in Germany it's much tougher and much more expensive to get a license, and to maintain it. I really REALLY wish they'd incorporate a policy like that in the states.

I work at Palo Alto, an extremely rich town. Half the cars are BMW's and it's not rare to see Ferraris and Lamborghinis. If one of those people got their car dented, I'd suspect the denter would get murdered right there on the spot.

Dude, you live near the Bay Area, people don't drive there.

I've lived in a fair number of places, and Southern California actually has very considerate drivers compared to where you are -- actually just in general. It surprised me when I moved there. Something about 14 lane highways where most people are going 80 necessitates that you not be a total jerkoff.

Seattle has terrible drivers. Oregon too. And anywhere around San Fran. Blegh. I feel your pain.

I've found driving in central Illinois to be pretty much exactly the same as central Texas. People in Texas run more yellow lights, though.

Yellow lights are just moody green lights. You have to floor it to make them happier.

I thought driving around Oakland was a blast. All the hills make for epic wheees, Hampton Roads is one big tidal plain. No hills at all.

My car didn't have any dents in it until my teenage son began driving.
