Holy crap, that really is quite barbaric. Probably not a good video to watch whilst eating my lunch! Eugh.

Yeah, that really is disgusting. Not in a gross-out way, but in a cruel way. I love meat, but seriously, just kill the effing animal before you eat it.
Graylensman's right, though... Most store-bought meat isn't exactly humane either.

Reading through the comments at the linked page.. I'm amazed at how quickly people can distort stuff like this into racial / cultural dissemination.
I have no insight into the matter at hand and am not part of the demographic being discussed, but I'd be willing to bet that being born Asian doesn't translate directly into eating live fish for amusement.
Even if it were a regional thing (which it's not), the issue to discuss is on an individual level.. even if as a group of individuals.

I swear i've never had a bacon sandwich while the rashers are still attached to the live pig. It's totally different in my opinion. Sure some animals are treated cruelly when brought up, and if you feel strongly about it you can buy alternatives where the animals are raised properly. This is different because the consumer is actually face to face with the cruelty, and in the video, seemingly revelling in it. There's different levels of cruelty.

Well, i think that's poppycock. Saying "humans are cruel, get over it" is a completely pointless defeatist attitude. "Oh, there's been a mass massacre in some far off country? Whatever, people are cruel, get over it." No thanks.

When the justice system executes a criminal, they kill it, not torture it poking it with knives and picking the flesh out little by little while he feels and sees what they are doing to himself.
Yes, we do kill animals and eat them. But the people in the video torture it for pleasure and that kind of cruelty is just sickening.

I'd have to agree w/ juggler. To say that you can accept it more-or-less because of the fact that it's 'not new' is a bit of a push-over attitude. Unless, of course, you're truly accepting what's being done, in which case we'll be having a completely different argument.
You don't have to feel the way I feel about it, but to discount my feelings because 'it happens' is a lot like saying 'no biggie' over your grandmother being raped because it's a trend in your neighborhood. (I can appreciate that my example is dramatic, but the logic is the same.)
@imagined, I think that your argument is what's fueling the indifference. They're all the same thing. If the moral or ethical issues haven't changed you kinda have to keep consistent w/ your argument. Economically driven slaughter houses and private (for profit) prisons w/ the power to execute are no more or less disturbing than this video.
(To be clear, I don't mean to call anybody out directly. Just following the cues of the discussion.)

What you said happens everyday and people just keep living their life as usual as long as it doesn't affect them.
You can't change people we all have an evil, sick, wicked and perverted side some of us just don't know it yet.
I just don't see what the big deal is.
I ain't gone to reply anymore cause this thread will most definitely get closed.

^ It'll probably get closed if we can't keep the discussion respectful and subject oriented.
Started a thread on this subject at SoulPancake so we can keep the k-streets free of negativity. Will post back here when the thread is public (should be a few min).
