can you apply a blur to a draggable mask

hi,

there are loads of tutorials for maginfying glasses that use draggable movie clips and masks.

do you think it would be possible to have a blur filter effect on a mask. basically i will have a jpg as a background, a mask that follows the cursor, and where ever the cursor goes the jpg will be fuzzy under the mask.

has anyone seen this before or know if it is possible. cheers.

hi,

i have something working but not sure if this is the best approach.

i made two images, one clear, and one blurred in photoshop. the clear image is on the bottom layer. the blurred image is a masked layer. the mask follows the cursor.

this works fine but i have a something else i need to do. I would like to have a custom cursor (or something like it). the way i have my file set-up i can't edit the mask layer or this will just change the shape of the mask.

any pointers would be great as this is driving me nuts. thanks.

i know you can replace the cursor with a custom one by making a mc and applying this code to it

but i have already replaced the cursor with my mask mc (cursor_mc) with an action on the main timeline

startDrag("cursor_mc", true);
