tough monitor for lobby use

I need a monitor that I can put in the lobby airlock of our office building. It's an environment where people enter through the outside door, and then enter the lobby proper through another door; this keeps the lobby temperature even in winter and summer. But the airlock (that's what I call it) experiences wide temperature and moisture swings.

I've googled for rugged and/or outdoor monitors - but those are like six grand in price. I know I won't be able to get the company to agree to that.

Am I overthinking this? Will a standard monitor withstand the environment I've described above?

I've only experienced CRT's display changing wildly based on temperature, but no one sells those anymore. I've never seen an LCD fluctuate.

does it have to be in the airlock? Seems like it would be more useful in the main lobby.... you know.. where people will want to stand.

Just a thought.

But I agree with NeoDreamer.. I don't think you will get to many problems with an LCD.

Go for a cheapo samsung, and that way if something does happen, no big deal.

I agree, get something cheap and build plexi-glass around it. The monitor itself should keep it fairly toasty inside its enclosure, really.

Excellent. Thanks for the suggestions.

We want the monitor in the airlock, because its main purpose is to display customized greetings for honored visitors and the like. It won't really be displaying anything worth hanging around for.
