Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Cheers,
Kirupa

    How to solve TypeError: Error #1009

    I'm new to Flash CS3 and actionscript 3. I have created a preloader for a panorama that was built using actionscript 3. The panorama by itself works fine but once loaded by the preloader it throws this error

    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at Panorama/setBounds()
    at Panorama/frame1()

    any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Its usually an issue of stage or root access. Test using Debug > Debug Movie. It will tell you where the error is.

    I know this is a bit late, but sometimes Flash hasn't loaded the object yet. This can be solved with this code:
    Code:
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,checkLoaded)
    function checkLoaded(e:Event){
    	if(mc){
    		//Do stuff with mc
    		this.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,checkLoaded)
    	}
    }

    Sometimes the instance has different name in each keyframe...
    Make sure that name is in all keyframes the same.
