Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Cheers,
Kirupa

Thread: Load/Save Data Offline.

    Load/Save Data Offline.

I'm in the process of creating an offline flash game, offline because it is fairly large in size. Problem is, due to it being offline I'm pretty sure there is no available method of creating XML/TXT files via flash in order to save player stats. Am I wrong or is there no alternative method?

Although not XML or TXT, there's the local Shared Objects flash can use to save on the client side...

Thank you, i will try this out. Is there any limitation to the amount of data that can be stored in a shared object file? I may need to store alot of variables so just to check

The default of 100 kilobytes represents a lot of variables

Pretty sure you can still create XML/TXT files even if it is offline.
