Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Cheers,
Kirupa

    vector help in photoshop

ok so i have three different vector shapes in photoshop, each on its own layer, how can i combine these layers and still keep them vector? or isnt this possible?

Click on a layer and press Ctrl+E or go to Layer->Merge Down! That'ss merge it with the layer under it!

but that changes it to raster, i want it to stay vector. i dont think this is possible in photoshop

cope the contents of the first layed and then just paste it into the other layer.

I recommend not using ps7 for vector. I think you are looking for like the combine tools to intersect, punch, union....and all those so you can combine 2 shapes to make one composite but still keep the paths. Dont have ps7 in front of me but I dont think it has that ability. I would use flash or freehand. Or illustrator.

    here's a tip i use (not precise a 100 percent but works)

fill both of your shapes on a raster layer so you actually have you vector in bitmap..

now transform each shape into a 'custom shape'

select the combine/intersect/boolean whatever you want in the stencil menu and draw your custom shapes over the bitmap....

    should work fine !

I thought about that. But if his picture is complex that could get pretty messy. PS is just bad for vector stuff.
