Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Any idea how this is done? Upload all contents from file on server into flash

I have been following this example where a user can upload an image to a server through flash and php: http://www.flash-db.com/Tutorials/upload/ .

I want to take it to the next step. At the moment all image files are being uploaded to a folder called 'files' on my server. I want to now be able to go through the contents of the 'files' folder and place all images onto the flash stage in the form of thumbnails.

I really don't have much of an idea how this would be done. XML, php... would I need to use myQSL? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

php can spider through directories and find all the file names and output them as XML data which flash can read.

google "php directory spider" should give ya some pointers on how to read file names with php(http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=233496 <- for example)

then google flash XML tutorial....theres lots

Sweet, thanks for the quick reply.

Just checked out that website you gave me. Is this code the php file produces:
     <a href="example/directory/file.mpg">file.mpg</a>
    <a href="example/directory/file2.mpg">file2.mpg</a>
valid .xml code that flash will read?

I just created a .php program that creates .txt files, so I'm assuming I can just create the .xml file just as easy.
