Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Cheers,
Kirupa

    Fla Script won't insert data into database

    hey all,

    i'm trying to add my "name" and "email" into my database if the email is NOT already in there.

    yet my code isn't working for some reason here it is:

    PHP Code:
    $sql "SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE email = '$email'";
    $result mysql_query$sql );

    if(
    mysql_num_rows($result) == ) {

    $sql "INSERT INTO mytable (`name`, `email`) VALUES ('$name', '$email')";

    $result mysql_query$sql ) or die('Could not add user');
    }
    ?>
    Cheers in advance

    to me it should be working...i mean it will insert it only if the name and email are different...i want it to insert only if the email is different.

    really weird why it's not happening?

    Try this:
    PHP Code:
    $sql "SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE email = '{$email}'";
    $result mysql_query($sql);

    if(
    mysql_num_rows($result) = ) {

    $sql2 "INSERT INTO mytable (name, email) VALUES ('{$name}', '{$email}')";

    $result2 mysql_query($sql) or die('Could not add user');
    }
    ?>

    nope i tried that and added `` around name and email for the values but still won't add anything nemore

    any more ideas? i think it might have something to do with the name because when the name and email are both different it inserts :S
