postsFLASH! Yay Or Nay?!?
Hey all!
This is a question for all you Flash marketing guru's out there.
I'm trying to talk my boss into incorporating Flash in our email promos & adverts. The thing is, he is all about the number crunching and would like me to present some actual facts & figures to prove that a flash promo would attract more of our customer demographic. I.E. - Older woman 45-75 years old with extra spending cash. We sell a number of products ranging from Jewelry / Apparel / Home Decor / Spoof Products / etc.. etc... Pretty much you name, we sell it. The promo's we design are pretty straight forward - HTML / JPEG email. He feels that this really wouldn't be the demographic worth trying to impress with animation or interactivity.
What's your guys take on this?
Can anyone direct me to resources to help me make an argument for Flash?
Can Flash be incorporated in Email promo's?
Do you know other companies that use flash promo's with this demographic?
Any help with this guys would be great!
Lets further the cause for Flash!

And these are all E-mailed to protential buyers? You will get a better market with strait forward images and a a very clean layout than with flash.
I with your boss on this one.

A lot of e-mail programs (such as Outlook and Hotmail) will block images and other content (including SWF's).

Animated gifs are good when set at a steady interval. you dont want to give these older ladies cesures.

Actually both get blocked, all non-text content usually - it will also usually have a little warning asking if you want to download the content. For non-computer type people this probally seem quite alarming.

I wouldn't use images or flash (definitely not Flash).
I suggest looking into designing CSS for email. I think there was a great A List Apart article on it a while back.

April 8th, 2006, 06:27 AM #12As much as I love flash and Grpahics, I hate emails with too many graphics. I prefer a well designed CSS/text (minimal static images) email would be better for me IMO. Nokrev's link is a goody
