why do people shake their cigarette pack?

When people buy a new sealed cigarette pack. They always put the topside down against their palm and then shake it up and down, hitting their palm with the topside of the pack.

Why do they do this?

I think so all the tobacco gets more compressed into the cigarettes. I smoke, but have no idea why people do this

aye, it's called "packing" by some. and that's why one does that.

I have always done it to keep from losing tobacco out of my cigs while in the pack, but I think that there's a difference in how the cig smokes.

Not to be "that guy" but man I do in fact notice a huge difference. I can't smoke 100's because I feel like I need to pull on it too hard. I kind of get an empty drag when they are not packed good.

I also pack my smokes. They tend to burn longer and the head does not fall off as easily.
