Everybody! This is important. In a few days, these forums will be moving over to using the totally sweet Discourse platform. To ensure this migration happens smoothly with no loss of content, these forums are currently in a read-only mode. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

There is never a good time to turn the forums off for an extended period of time, but I promise the new forums will be a billion times better. I'm pretty sure of it.

See you all on the other side in a few days, and if you have any (non-technical) questions, please e-mail me at kirupa@kirupa.com. For technical questions, try to find a tutorial that corresponds to what you are looking for and post in the comments section of that page.

Cheers,
Kirupa

    This a simple nested list:

    <ul>
    <li><a href="#" >Item one</a>
    <ul>
    <li><a href="#">Subitem one</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Subitem two</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Subitem three</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Subitem four</a></li>
    </ul>

    </li>
    <li><a href="#">Item two</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Item three</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Item four</a></li>
    </ul>

    and each section can be styled using css. But it doesnt validate. Is there a way to have nested lists that validate?

    PHP Code:
     <ul>
      <
    li>Item one

    <ul>
        <
    li>Subitem one</li>
        <
    li>Subitem two</li>
        <
    li>Subitem three</li>
        <
    li>Subitem four</li>
       </
    ul>
      </
    li>
      <
    li>Item two</li>
      <
    li>Item three</li>
      <
    li>Item four</li>
     </
    ul
    or with definition lists
    PHP Code:
    <dl>
     <
    dt>item1</dt>
     <
    dd>subitem1</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem2</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem3</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem4</dd>
     <
    dt>item2</dt>
     <
    dd>subitem1</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem2</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem3</dd>
     <
    dd>subitem4</dd>
    </
    dl

    take note that ul(/ol) elements in nested lists are inside li elements

    I'm pretty sure he means the nested ul, inside the larger ul, is nested within an li element.
