View Full Version : Help me make this more realistic

I'm trying to create a 'flying butterfly' and am not quite nailing the motion and realistic-ness (mmm ... is that even a word).
Take a look. I'd appreciate any advice on tweening, or whatever, to make this better. Ignore colours etc, they just standard for now until I get the motion down.
Cheers.

P.S. I'm trying to upload the .swf and can't, so go here and take a peep instead - http://members.rogers.com/adelelee/butterfly.html

Well you have the wings moving in the same direction both ways, so that isn't really like flapping, you should have the smaller wing tween to the left when the bigger wing in the front is tweening to the right, so they both go out at the same time, then they both go in at the same time instead of side to side at the same time.
I hope this helps :)

Much better :)
Just another suggestion: You might want to make the smaller wing slant more downwards, not sure how it would look, and it is just a suggestion, you don't have to do it of course (but of your you wouldn't have to do anything I said anyway...lol).

Hey, I'll take any advice! :)
Try again, I think it looks a little choppy now. I need to smooth it out, make it more seamless.

Now the smaller wing is moving faster than the bigger wing.

Picky, picky, picky!! :P Just kidding, you're right. I never noticed that. My own fault, doing two things at once as usual and not concentrating enough on one. Typical me.

hmm. maybe for the bigger wing, as it flaps down, skew the height of it so that it is shorter, and distort (or whatever the term is; i have to freshen up my flash lingo) the upper part of the wing so that it is larger than the bottom part, giving a sense of perspective of the top of the wing being closer as it goes down. perhaps not skew it so that it is longer horizontally when the wing is down, as that seems to make it appear like it is going left and right rather than up and down.
i don't know if my comments are comprehensible, or even if they'd work. :pirate: it looks great so far, though!

When you're done with the wing motion, write back.. I have an excellent idea for the actual flight movement... if you're interested.
I did a semi random flight pattern with a/s a little while ago.. works pretty well.

That would be great David. I abandoned the project last night in favour of a warm bed and book, but I'll be working on it later today. I'll get back to you.

Haha :P
This is good :)
Yet, there are 2 ways of seeing this, one where it's all ok, and one where both wings seem to flap inwards :P
See it?

Okay, I made it a little faster, you can see it at the same URL.
Eilsoe, I tried playing with the skew and stuff but I just can't get it to look like it's going to the right.

Guigo, what do you mean, every step? Wouldn't it be just as hard to get the right perspective?

..if I´m wrong, plz ignore this post and the previous one.
If I´m right, what I mean is that tweens not always behave like we want, so if you draw every step of the movement of the wings, you get more control. If you are having a hard time to do that, maybe I can help you. If you want post the .fla and I´ll see what I can do.:)

Yeah, I'm doing tween. Here's the .fla. I won't take your work, but I can work from your example and go from there! ;0)

Mike, I wanted to get the wing motion down but that part. But you're right, it should move up and down.
