Where can I get photos for free, without having to worry about some moron emailing me saying that I owe him money for using his scenery (Corporate America lets this happen)? Just stock photos: buildings, nature, animals, humans. I want to experiment with photo manipulation, but I need some photos first....can anyone help?

Well I was looking for a sunset and found one in a sample pictures folder in 'My Documents' folder on XP. This is what I got with 20 minutes of being bored at work:

I used like two filters, no brushes, a lot of messing with layers, colors, and reflections. Sorry, but again it's only 20 minutes of work, so I really don't care....just felt like sharing!

That is incredible Dan..

yorkshirepuddin: Thanks for that link! I finally found where I got my pics for "Sunflower Escapades" (in the D&D section or on my site if you want to see). I have been looking allover for the site where I got them, but they have been on my comp for quite some time.

Here is another great site -=x[ click here ]x=- (http://www.freeimages.co.uk/)

It has a ton of objects such as money, wires, credit cards, lights - lots of inanimate objects that are nice to have at your disposal :) If there is a section that says you have register, just do it, its free and they dont mail you anything afterwards. 90% of the site is not password protected though... Have fun!

I always use www.visipix.com (http://www.visipix.com) for images. They're all royalty free etc, and the majority are good quality. They also dislike Microsoft, if you read the small print.

it will be better to install WebShots and take so many free professional photos - damn good
Only you have to change format of photos and you can do that simply in Paint adding bmp...

so: www.webshots.com

I love that footer btw

just keep in mind the forum rules for footers everyone.. since we have a lot being created. I think it's something like 300 by 60 by 15k.. or close to that.
not that anyone is going to get into serious trouble over a footer.. but I know that the Kman does crack down periodicaly. :)

I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for free photos.

You know, for a designer to not make much money, we sure are expected to pay an awful lot for stuff: photos, fonts, software!!!

At least Mac & cheese is still inexpensive. :P

Check these out, not great, but there's some good stuff:

http://www.intuitivmedia.de/index2.htm

(and their new site)

http://www.intuitivmedia.net/

http://www.thinkstock.com/

And if you're just looking for some 72dpi stuff to mess with, you can always download some decent stuff from the big boys like comstock.com et al.

Hope that helps a bit,

t2d

ok Dan how did you do that beam of light?

Dan is too clever for his own good sometimes. :)

I use places like www.stockphotos.com (I think that's the URL). Just a search on Google for stock photos. A lot of them you have to pay for, but you find the occasional gem. And if you're altering them to this extent anyway... :)

Here is a great site - just register (it's free) and there are a ton of royalty free images.
