A line chart would surely be a better way of representing that than a bar chart, wouldn't it? The x-axis is time.. (I should know, there was a question about charts in a paper I did yesterday) ;)

a bar graph here is not appropriate but a line graph is. i would also remove the dates in between valuations and include units on your y axis.
go into view>page break preview and change your page breaks and/or resize the graph.

Also, no matter how big I make the chart, the bars wont get thicker, but the # of dates will increase (along the X axis..)

even when you click the down arrow at the bottom of the view menu you can't see page break preview?
//and don't worry, you're not going to fail. i can do excel in my sleep.

let me see if i'm interpreting this right... you have a portfolio and it's comprised of of different stocks each week. you want the weekly bar to be the entire value of the portfolio, with the bar divided into different colors based on the proportions of value for each stock?

Well the way my teacher has it setup... eh.. you should see for yourself.. he gave me an example graph... on a word doc. Here:

:) Look at the individual thing, scroll down one or two pages

Okay I even tried it in MSFT word, same problem hit me: I can't turn the dam thing sideways nad expand ti across pages.
if i cud just do that, it wud be okay, i cud stretch it horizontally and it wud go across pages
unfortunately it wont let me rotate the chart, the rotate buttons on the drawing toolbar are greyed out
