Hey all... I recently posted my first attemp at the trendy style of "grunge" (which looked more like a messy composition - as well noted my sonmi!). Here is one I did today, I'd like to get decent at this style (and I have a lot to learn when it comes to grunge) so comments and crits would be greatly appreciated!!

Here it is:

Here is the thread with my first attempt if you want to see:

It does look better with the green eyes. Grunge isn't really that colorful, it is pretty much duotone with an accent color here or there.

I am paving the way for a new style of grunge! :P

My problem is I am so used to other design styles that they come out in my grunge (hense the slight flow, colors, etc.), its just second nature to me. What reallt kills me is that I am not totally sold (nor do I totally understand) on the style, so its hard to look at my work and crit it. Thats why I love this forum! Keep the comments coming!!

Ok... I am new to the Deviant Art community.... the pic in this thread has been deleted twice. The first time I put it in the Indy-Misc section then the most recent time I put it in the Indy-PhotoManip section and now its gone. I didnt get any email telling me whats up so I was wondering if any of you could help me out - whats the deal???

Ryall, how did you do the pixel stretch effect? Care to share?

you just select a vertical line 1 px wide (if you are using photoshop 7 use the vertical line selection tool). Then define that selection as a pattern (edit -> define pattern). Now add the area to the right or left to your selection (selection tool +shift). Now use the fill tool to fill in your selected area (be sure to set the fill options to pattern and pick the pattern you just defined).

Beyond that I added a layer mask to fade it a bit more.

Have fun!

I've never submittet anything there, nor am I a member, but if they delete it without giving you any kind of notice, it's THEIR bad...

How rude...

I agree. It is their system though, so they can do whatever they want :-\

I cant think of any reason - its not hateful, ****ographic, I'm not claiming that I took those photos.... I dunno :(

Hey Ryall, if this helps...

Think messy and dirty, as if you found this picture on the ground and it is anchient.

Don't overdo the colors, old and messy isn't bright and lavish :)

Contrast.... only having about 2 colors or so can be very... blendish (is that a word?), so you need to have a focal point color.

What am I saying... I am no expert on the subject either, I did one image with it...lol.
