View Full Version : Golf Course Logo Wanted

For those who don't know, I work at a golf course. I was in the pro shop today and was looking at our logo balls and thought they were very boring. It looks like it was done in Microsoft Word with clip art. I don't have a picture to show you but needless to say it could be better.

So I asked the manager if she'd be interested in a new logo and she said sure. And so here I am. I can't think of anything and thought that if someone here was bored and wanted to give it a go they could.

Here is some info about the course:

Heather Hills Golf Club web site (http://www.heatherhills.net)

The course is very hilly so hills or curves would work.

The course is public.

If you check out the site don't worry about matching the font used for the course name with what you want to do with the logo. I'm sure that if you used a nice font (that is free) she'd use it for the course name as well. (Hope that made sense). If you do want to use the current font it is Monotype Corsiva.

If you have any other questions please ask.

As far as compensation, I have no clue. Maybe a dozen golf balls (with the new logo) or so if you like golf but I can't make any promises.

I am just curious. A golf course cannot offer any monetary compensation? I dont like to comment in these threads. But that just sounds almost like being taken advantage of. I mean if they put these on goods and make money off of the enhanced branding, why not offer up a lil something?

Ditto. It's one thing for someone looking for a hand with something, to get some free advice or even work out of us kirupians.. but what you're asking for is a gig that should pay and pay well. A logo is a serious investment a company makes.. not just something to throw together.

Due to the nature of this request and what it is for. I dont think it unreasonable to offer up some kind of compensation. A golf course could really benefit monetarily from and enhanced brand, as I am sure you already know. SO my request is that you offer up some kind of compensation to the artist that delivers the logo you like. Please PM me if you have any questions.

TO THE ARTISTS
From my personal experience as a designer. A brand of this magnitude could easily pull $500-$1,000 if I were doing it. This company stands to gain a lot if the logo is a big hit. I recommend not relinquishing rights to the image usage if you desire to get paid/receive recognition for this gig. I want to assume everyone who posts here has the best of intentions. But just becareful of being taken advantage of. Alot of times you wont get the credit you desire for your work. So you may as well get paid.

i agree with your comments tripleD but take a look at the rates. This place would have to do some serious business to make a lot of money (still enough to pay for a designer's fee) $18 per 9 holes so say $36 for a good day of 18. The golf course a mile from me charges $135 a round. Also take into account that while my golf course is in California and can opperate year around, this one is in Michigan in the eastern side. The short of it is that while they can probably afford it they charge low rates and only opperate 1/2 the year (a guess).

couldn't we just call the club and talk to the manager ourselves? I mean she's under the impression, that hines is doing it I'm sure. lol... just imagine... they are gonna get 1000s of phone calls soley based on the advertisement of a possible logo design. she's gonna flip, and get upset at the same time I'm sure. all the contact info is on the site:

3100 McKail Rd
Romeo, MI 48065

Phone:
(810) 798-3971

Fax:
(810) 798-2640

LoL.... just a thought.

lol...Sim...I didnt want to take it there. But you did

Guiness....Believe they make money. They wouldnt do it if they did not. Theres golf, pro club, food, entertainment....a bunch of stuff I am sure they charge for. Mind you this is not Pebble Beach but they can afford to pay for a logo. I think Mr. Hines may get chewed out now. That was not my intention. Just wanted to be fair for our members.

This is the kind of response I was expecting and I completely understand (and if you want to give me a hard time go for it). A few things to clear up though. She is not under the impression that I'm doing it and as far as compensation I'm not sure how much she'd be willing to pay. I'll try and get a figure but don't expect the $500 - $1000 mentioned earlier.

If you want to call the course go for it.

Anyway, I just posted and thought that if someone was bored they might want to attempt it but if you feel short changed don't bother with it.

Thanks for your time and comments!

I do apologize if anyone does have the guts to call. And I am glad you understand. Also if you up the ante, you will get quite a better turn out as well. I am sure that your intentions are in the right place. But I just like to look out for our members. No love lost. If I was really trippin I would have deleted the thread.

i might be interested in trading my services for a bunch of free golf. let me know if that's an option.

Hey bwh2, I was thinking of something like that today but I didn't know if anyone would live close enough to make it work. I'll have to ask the manager but probably won't get to talk to her until next week. What would you consider a bunch of free golf? Also, do you live in Detroit or closer because that's about an hour's drive.

i live in richmond (32 and main), so i'm only like 20-25 min away. i don't even really golf, but i like to goto the driving range. how about like 25 driving range tokens?

I live about 35 min away from that course, let me know what your manager says about the free golf...

I'll check into the tokens and golf for you guys next week when I see her!

Here's the deal. She said she would give a range pass (it's either 20 or 25 baskets, can't remember) and two rounds of 18 holes in exchange for a logo. Her only stipulation is that she must approve the logo before payment.

Let me know what you guys think.
