They still dont beat my current host, but it is a good package none the less. I may now throw them into my hosting pool for my clients.

you guys realize their pricing is still a bit high for the market? their pricing is prepaid, and if you want that really low price, you have to commit for 2 years. I do like the rollover idea, though the first thing i thought of was a cell phone. :P

Haha yeah MT is awesome and all but it's just a little overpriced for most people.

The new SS4.0 plans are pretty good when I saw them yesterday. But I mean, if someone is not really good wioth picking hosts or cant be bothered looking around and wants to stay with one, MT is a good option. Pricing is still a bit expensive though. Really, the new 2GB plan is $9.95 not $7.95 until you decide for a 2year plan so yeh.

it looks good to me. All the websites I have (well most) are here to stay for awhile so 2 years is ok with me. I will be checkin into this further. Thanks for the link! :kommie:

I understand the 2 year part, I think that's a great point. The other side of it though, is what if the site goes belly up? you decide to change names? you decide not to run the site any more?

I just think that a 2 year commitment for anything is a long time, especially in the web industry. We don't know what's going to be what by then, way too many things can or could happen. I'm speaking from a personal, consumer perspective here, not related at all to my business one.

That being said, I feel like I need to say this...

I respect mediatemple more than any other host out there, I've used them myself for a project before, and even had a client on there as well; all to see for myself their service and quality. They are by far one the best hosts out there, no question. However mt is large, and we are not. So if there is a comparison it pretty much stops right there. I simply feel for what they offer, they are overpriced, even with these new packages.

Then again, to refute my own point here: you are paying for quality. And this is what we try to price ourselves on as well. We are not the cheapest by far, but we are darn sure one of the better quality hosts out there. As the saying goes: you get what you pay for.

I just want to be clear that people understand my viewpoint, I'm not bashing them at all. I am merely stating my personal opinion, and that it's not clouded by competition.

There is no competition, mt has a name and we don't by comparison...yet. ;)

Mediatemple looks great, although when I get myself a host in the near future, it'll be either unflux or surpasshosting, both of them seem to have really good offers.
Many sites offer really excellent hosting (for instance, I just named three of them) but what I don't really understand is how do they make any money because they all have very low prices for what they offer. I remember when you had to pay like $20 per month for 100 megs of space.

Yeah, the pricing still isn't where it should be.
http://dreamhost.com/ has much better deals.

:( So talked to them about the pricing and how my price is crazy expensive, and I want the low price they offer. While I'm getting the new service free of charge I'm still on my grandfather account :( which means I'm still paying the outrageous pricing / month. SO looks like I'll have to cancel my account or call them and make sure that's done. SIGH

Woot I'm gonna be upgraded! Anyone noticed how all the (mt) sites are kind of slow right now? Kirupa is lagging a lot.

Just a note... that upgraded only in package, and things of that nature. Your rates though still won't change.
