Seems this company Tiger Direct has a trademark on the word 'Tiger' and they want Apple to not distribute OSX 10.4 Codenamed 'Tiger' because:

The retailer said Apple's use of the name "is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the general purchasing public."

Why did they wait so soon before the release of Tiger before crying about it?

Of course, Apple and Apple Corps. (the Beatles) have been arguing since the early 1980's of the Apple name...

That always pissed me off. It's a **** apple they're fighting about. And what do the remaining beatles care if someone else uses the name?

it would be one thing if they were 2 small companies fighting over the principal of the matter....but it's the mutlimillion dollar beatles being little british wankers......i hate money

and to be on topic...this tiger name thing is insane as well....

Ahahahaha, true... true. I hate it when companies sue over stupid, commonly used words that they've trademarked...

It sure would be nice if our law system didn't let these things happen. I think it's funny when people are stupid.

Party!! About time Apple got sued for something,

They get sued ALL OF THE TIME, prime example was mentioned above, with the Apple thing and the Beatles... They settled, but then there was MAD BEEF after the ipod came out, because one of the agreements was that they could use Apple, as long as it wasnt affiliated with any type of audio product... but the ipod is an audio product, so you can see why.
And anyways, when did we learn of apple developing Tiger? like 9 months ago? and theyre only complaining now?? and what is this "confusion" no one has ever even heard of them anyways...

HAAAAA! This is so funny, i can't believe it. It seems like they are upset that Apple has more money for advertising :D "...overwhelming the computer world with a sea of Tiger references..."
Anyway.. this is funnyer - "is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the general purchasing public" - What deception, like "I heard that the new Tiger product is awesome. Ah... crap... is the Apple's product the people are talking about?... so the Tiger Tiger is like before? ****! I'm really dissapointed" :D

Strange Laws you have in there :P it would be really weird to stop this release. It's obvious that they are after the money. Apple would probably settle just to ship in time it's products. Or .. who knows?

Later Edit:
I'm not an apple onwer, so because there weren't any dates written in that article I supposed that Friday meant Tomorow, but seems like apple was supposed to ship last friday. So... What happened? Did the court granted Tiger Direct's request?

There was another dispute about the Frosties Cereal logo (a tiger) and an oil company's tiger logo. They said they look too similar...don't know how it ended but the logo's did not look similar at all.

Copywrite law's are good at protecting people's work but i agree with some of you when people and companies take it to stoopid level.

Its like the divorce cases when you see ex-wives that have never worked a day in their lives take millions form thier ex-hubbies.
saying that, the ex-hubbies are probably CEOs and don't earn the money the hard way anyway. screw em! they should all die. or start taking life a little less seriously

are you people serious? have any of you guys been on a mac in the past 3-4 years? OS X (any pre-tiger version) is better in every way than any wintel or x86 box i've ever crashed on - um, i mean used. much less this mythical longhorned (lie) which boasts features i've had on my powerbook for 3+years (yeah the powerbook that has never crashed). the iPod isn't something apple finally did right - it's just the first thing the masses were smart enough to realize was a superior product. well, i guess you could at least play your games - wintels are good for something (outside of crashing and attracting unwanted virii, adware, spyware). apple is a software company - one smart enough not to sacrifice quality or stability by letting just any smuck with a checkbook mass produce crap boxes with too many default open ports and their own (buggier per-) version of overgrown spaghetti code with the same poorly designed 11-year-old interface.

marketshare is a myth, games are for consoles, security is a default (not a ram consuming 3rd party app), and apple is a software company. i'm not a fanboy, just a productive consumer who believes in getting what i pay for. i've spent my years on both platforms/OS's and the choice wasn't something i made - it was actually billy bob gates telling me windows was the way to go, when he knew it was(is) full of bugs, empty promises and proprietary formats. had he told me the truth, i may have considered keeping a crashbox around. i guess i just like owning a machine that doesn't require 3GHz and as much RAM as i can afford to run an OS that is 3+ years behind the competitor in every facet of functionality, useful features and industry standard software. when does jaguar, i mean panther, i mean tiger, i mean longhorn reach beta? i guess it doesn't matter since it'll be an even slower hacked version of XP or NT or '98... etc. at least your norton won't require an upgrade, let's just hope those intel chips can keep up with the minimum recommended requirements.

*i had the extra time to write this because my powerbook wasn't crashing.

LMAO. You have convinced me. I haven't really had many probs with my PC. Just keep it in good shape. Before i read your post i was considering my next computer to be an apple anyway. I'll consider carefully.

Totally agree with the "games are for consoles"! though.

Thread closed. Seems like the fanboys were left out of their cages early today :P

Moving this out of TechNews. Wouldn't want regular visitors to see this stuff.
