Well since IE doesn't support transparent pngs :( is there anyway to get the left and right border to look good? Any way to have a flash file with the png in it and transparent background auto-size to the height of the content? Any other sugguestions?

It looks the way it is supposed to in FireFox, stupid IE ;(

just use transparent gifs. The colors are close enough to where antialiasing through a matte wont be noticed at all.

this is the best i could get it to look with gif's:

but then the bottom doesn't really fade to light, and the corners at the bottom aren't completely transparent.

Yea gif's only support one color at 0% opacity, which isn't what i'm looking for.

I did find: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/index.htm which is great, except it doesn't work for CSS backgroudns :S
