iPod Mini battery question

I recently bought an iPod Mini (silver) and the person at the store told me that I should buy a battery warranty, because the batterys tend to stop working. Is it true or was the person just trying to sell me a warranty? :puzzle:

I think they fixed the problem anyway.

If it's like most Apple products you have a year on the standard warranty don't you? Plus if you change your mind you can pick up AppleCare any time during that year. Anyone know if that applies for the iPod?

Applecare does apply to iPods, but apparently it does not cover batteries and I have to buy the store warranty within 30 days!

are you kidding me, its not in some... its with all. It occurs faster depending on how often you use it. If u use it a lot, it should take a much longer time for it to occur rather then using it rarely
it uses a lithium ion battery which will run out over time. More usage keeps it awake or something so it takes less time to run out.
... as far as i know.
They say something about it on the apple site also.

its a proven fact that the apple battery lasts about 18 months.

there are exceptions such as A. you dont use it B. you use it rarely, things like that. i learned it from a reliable friend.

Yup. Was a big outcry - some dude made a short movie about the huge cost of replacing the battery after only a year or so... Apple responded by halving the cost, or thereabouts.

I wouldnt get an mp3 player with an inbuilt battery...

No, im sorry but you guys are wrong.

I have had 3 iPods, a 1st Gen 5gb (with moving scroll wheel), 3rd Gen 20gb and 4th Gen 40gb, plus my sister has an iPod Mini.

I have NEVER had any problems with the battery on any of my iPods, despite having the 1st Gen 5gb for like 2-3 years.

Oh and I used it every day for over 2 hours (all my iPods have been used daily for at least an hour, usualy more).

Anyway, if the battery screws up, just buy a new one, they arn't expensive.

I don't think anything but the Mini screws up, so.... anyway I heard the battery is not "officaly" replaceable, but it is possible.

1 hour per day can make your ipod battery last a long time.
im talking about 5 hours daily.

Only some of the iPod batteries have been proven to die. These batteries are the ones that are in the 3rd generation iPod. The battery will just go out randomly. You shouldn't be worrying about it, by the time the battery goes out (if it ever does) you'll be chasing after the 8th gen iPod.

Yeah, I beilieve that. Also the Apple care does cover the battery. oops...
