Is it possible to boot into DOS on a Win XP machine? It must be--what if I wanted to format my hard-drive?

uhm... You can't unless you formatted FAT32 when installing Windows.
The NTFS thingy doesn't allow Dos really... And boy do I know it... I can't play C&C Tiberian Dawn anymore, :(

Sure it's possible. Make a boot disk, then set from BIOS to boot from floppy. But you'll only have basic Dos commands.
For a XP boot disk:

I tried that with one NTFS formatted PC and it didn't work. Had to plug it into a network and format it from another comp. I'll try again though, see if I can put Windows 98 on my old comp again, :D

*wants C&C Tiberian Dawn running!*

you can always run the file from the command prompt by going to start menu - run - then type "cmd" or "command" to bring up the 'dos' prompt - and run it from there -

you can also try running it by inserting disk, right clicking the installer .exe and changing the compatibility settings for the right OS - then running it from there -

you can also boot to the command prompt by pressing F8 right after the bios stuff but before the windows stuff and select "command prompt" only.

Ah man just take out your hard-drive and put that ontop of a large subwoofer. That should take care of the problem and then reformat away.

Doesnt matter what format the partition is. ;) They all seem to disapear with a large magnet.

Or you could just use the boot disk? But I prefer the other method its more fun.
