I got this from Boing Boing.

Check out this metroid map. It's the entire game map as a PNG. Crazy.

I think he did this by ripping each of the map tiles and then ripping the map file, making a program that can read the map file, and then actually mapping it out. It shouldn't be as hard as it looks, but anyways, it sure is cool!
