Kirupa, i was wondering if we could like have a rule that said that if your post count stays at 0 for like a month or sumthing, your account will be deleted. I say this because it is unfair to people who might want that name.

I like that idea actually...

No reason to have 500 members who visits once every year...

But maybe we should make it 1½ month or so...

Anyhoo, just my oppinion...

Absolutely:elderly:
I've been in many sites where "Syko" is taken by some dude who doesn't post. I hate people like that! :scream:

yes that time limit is fair, and kirupa can warn them too. now all we need is approval...

Nah, leave 'em. You never know when they step back here for help, realizing that their accounts had been deleted for inactivity. I would opt, however, for a hack that would allow for a self-imposed account deletion.

I agree with h88. Deleting accounts doesn't make sense. What about people who posted once? What about people who didn't vote for a long time? :-\

I think it would be fair if a user deletes his/her account by his/her own!

I'll change my mind on this one and go with h88 too...

i like the delet on own, and the guest post...but ok 6mo. max of no post=delete?

Having guests post will be a huge hassle.

Deleting an account on his/her own is good, but it has its flaws.

I say more than 1 1/2 month before deletion. Much more. Maybe like if they don't post after 6 months or so. By then, if they haven't posted anything, they probably forgot all about this forum.

What will the huge hassle be?

Dont delete someones user acount, even if it was a year, in some forums, Ie: FlashMove, i saw Members browsing the forums with no posts, and they registered since 2000!!!

lostinbeta

Well they can browse the board as a guest if they aren't going to post.

THey are taking up a name that someone else could use, and it is a waste if they aren't going to post with it.

bottom line:

It's just a nickname you call yourself when you ask a question. If reverendflash had been taken, I'm sure I would have been known as Rev... =) I would rather have a name taken, than have a member come back to ask a question, and have to re-register and leave without the answer (prior to this forum, I would ask a question, then not even view the forum for months after my question was answered. Just too busy.)

Someone is always going to be on the same "track" as you, even when you think that you have an "original idea" and it ends up being done somewhere before (ask George Harrison)...=)

I think Kirupa & crew has done a great job with just enough forums to use, and not enough to intimidate. My vote is: this is a sweet little slice of the web, lets not try to improve it too much. :P

Basically.... this forum is fine the way it is....

So let us just leave it at that :) Because I love this place the way it is.

I enjoy reading the forums, and have been around a while now... In fact I still have the link for the ezboard forums... :) I do not generally post unless I have something usefull to say, and given my extreamly limited flash skills, its not that often. :P Ahhh well at least my post count is above zero.

Cheers!

I agree with beta. Haveing gest post would suck. At least this way I know who i'm helping or who is helping me. Also a 4 or 6 month waiting period is way better for deletion.

mdipi
November 12th, 2002, 04:12 PM
before deletion they should be notified, like 2 wks before via e-mail.
