Hi, I would like to hire someone to design me a website... My budget is 80 dollars.
I find it offensive that you expect people to do design work for such pittance. :a: I hope you don't expect a high quality design for that price.
Understand that while some designers do it as a hobby, others need to make a living from their work. Also you usually get what you pay for in the design world.
Low budget = low quality.

Hehehe, I dont think i'll ever come back here. If i do, i'll look you up and add u to any IM and we talk there. I think there are too many 12 year olds here with nothing to do that feel the need to bother people.

1. I'm not 12. I'm actually 17 but I don't see what age has to do with anything.
2. Designers don't work for nothing. There seems to be a widespread illusion that you can offer whatever price you like for a job and designers will come flocking. $80 for a website is downright laughable and I fully support Ya3's comment.
3. Feel free to not come back here. IMO it won't be a big loss. In fact, I think this forum would be a lot better if there were less uppity jerks with under $100 budgets posting job offers asking for designers to take on big projects for rubbish pay.

...well, I guess that 'ROFL' comment was a tad bit harsh... but I think you could have rephrased your original post. More like 'I need a favour and will pay a small token of appreciation', rather than 'I'm looking for some kid to make me a site... I'll give ya a whole $80!' (that's how it came across to me, anyway).
Your being cheap makes it look like you think we're a bunch of kids who'll jump at the mention of money. Somewhat insulting.
If you need a favour, ask for it. There are plenty of nice people here :)

Twits.
Attacking him is fruitless - one of the purposes, and great core things of a site such as this (which clearly you've missed), is the ability to network with students/hobbyists that will do such jobs for cheap. I am one such person who has done free jobs for portfolio purposes.
Obviously, you will not see large corporations (read; higher paying jobs) advertising here, as a general rule.
If you aren't going to do the job for the price, then move aside for the plenty of eager kids that will. People accepting these jobs are generally incapable of doing a highly paid one that a more experienced designer like some on here could.
Suffice to say, theres different levels of jobs for everyone. You aren't gonna lower your design rates, so you can't expect a small client to throw hundreds of dollars at you - which is why they are trying here.
Apply for jobs that suit you.
Also, just take a quick look at the average age of people on this forum.
Nuff said.

You do have a point, but $80 for a site isn't even going to average out to minimum wage.

Perhaps re-read the post - I doubt the average 15 year old with a nous for design would care, if it meant a kick start to his portfolio; even more so if he can whip up a quickie in a few hours and still satisfy the client.

I'm 16 and I find it offensive that someone would try to extort a website out of someone just because they are young or "inexperienced." Just because someone isn't of age doesn't mean their skills aren't just as valuable as a "professional's"

You're not understanding are you?
What you said is fundamentally fine, albeit contextually flawed, I guess your selective attention span gives you the opportunity to let out some angst.
Let me say it again.
Younger, and formally unqualified designers will, on the whole, be more likely to take on jobs for cheap, as a means of gathering experience and folio pieces. The EXACT same principle applies to, for example, hairdressers. Go to a student hairdresser, and you get a job done for cheap - and they get the experience.
Some clients, short on cash, realise the FACT that a place like this serves as a great community of design students.
Which it does, and is.
They want a job done cheap, and the designer wants the work. Everyone wins. It should be left up to the discretion of the designer as to how they react to any client abuse at a bad job, etc.
People have no right to take stabs at a client for wanting a job done cheap. Its like anything - if you won't do it for the price, ask them for more. If they wont budge, then move on. Theres plenty of clients for everyone. If you think what they are asking is unreasonable, then tell them if you're prepared to do the job. If not, then dont - some smart kid may think otherwise and leap at the opportunity, because thats exactly what it is to them - an opportunity.
The fact that a couple of people on here were happy to do the work for the price illustrates that your line of thinking is a little outside reality.
Cheers.

You can't judge a community for one persons actions. That's like saying if a white man steals... all white men steal. :ne:

I'm with Oil G 100%. That was a perfectly twitish remark.

Ditto to that.
If the guy came back after 3 days and no one replied, and then he called us all money hungry because of it, then he'd be wrong.. but some of you simply need to learn how to keep quiet. I read the first post and wasnt' insulted at all. Perhaps some of you are just too sensitive.

I will be dividing this forum into several sub-forums based on pricing, so lower cost offers will be in one sub-forum and more complex jobs will be in another sub-forum. That should help keep these problems from arising in the future - I hope :)
