hey everyone.
after i did a sort of fun-layout for a personal portfolio site i felt inspired create a new version of the "creative arts and cultural site" - i just felt that the old one was tumbling further and further away from looking good and getting closer and closer to being cluttered and just messy. so i thought it needed to be simpler and more organised.
a html site is better for the school cos it's just easier to update.
i think this one looks pretty awesome so lemme know what you guys think.
no content yet of course :D

I really like your vector art a lot. I think the site all together is little too boxy. I think you should try to play with the layout and maybe go with a asymmetric layout. That vector art is awesome though, don't lose it.

the content area will have a background image set at like 30% alpha and that should take the "boxiness" out of the whole look but atm it does look like it.
thanks.

here's the site with a little bit of content to "complete" it a little more...

it looks cool, i think you should make some custom buttons with some crazy type like the rest of the site. those links dont fit that well in my opinion.

I like the top header. It really looks kool. The colors are good, either. I like almost everything, except, the menu - you again, use the same font (that was used for your own site. Remember?). Why not make such text buttons, using the same fonts that you used in the header? Would be much interesting and impressive, I'm sure. So, that's it.

ha ha, you caught me out tommy_s - but i did say i was inspired by the other site. (and seeing as the other site was just a fun site i can afford to use the idea).
but i'll see what i can do with those links - im worried if i make them the same as the header font it may look too cluttered and messy - but i will test it to make sure.
thanks everyone! im actually surprised as to how good it looks overall - i didn't think i could ever do something like this - seeing as i've only been doing it for less than a year.

EDIT: i'm going to try out what the links would look like in the font that the header for the content is in.

here's the menu with the font a la header.
great advice from everyone and at least to me the site looks consistent with the additions for text in menu - great work i can't wait to see the finished product

yeah I'd get rid if the straight font beneath "MENU" "HOME" button, don't think you need those cause the font is easy to read. Would like to see the rollover effect though if you decide to have one.
dark, but I like dark. Cool

thanks everyone! as evilgoo said it's great advice everyone is giving.
jasninder: what did you mean by the pixel font where the credits are?
rab: the site wont be in flash (html as i said in the opening post - cos it's easier to view by the school community and also easier to update). but later down the track i may turn the menu and header into a flash file and animate it. but i will be have a rollover yes - eventually.
i've taken the "MENU" text out and respaced the cloud - thanks for the tip jasninder.
thanks everyone!
