As usual, I am redesigning my site. However, this time I'll actually set something up that makes it easy enough for me to update that I will.

At any rate, I've been messing around and can't decide between these three general designs. Any advice appreciated :)

There set out ok, but they dont really appeal to me. First of the colours apart from the red background are terrable. The purple is off! I think design one is the best for the navigation though. Good job so far but...

I don't know if I like it either, but that's ok, because it's all CSS! :D

The first layout looks good to me too, although I think u should work a bit more on the colours.
Maybe this will help?

What is with you two guys?

Kurez, I think it's time you downloaded some more fonts as you seem to only have Base 02 at the minute. And your input to this thread is pointless and, it must be said, ugly.

Lucas92, Kurez's work is not worthy of a "nice one". I appreciate that he may be new to the design world but people need to be criticised to improve.

Rant over.

Morse, I like the layout of the first one but, as B3nKobe said, the colours are nasty. It's cool that it's all CSS though. Nice one.

I like the second variant. The first has an ugly text. The third has a yellow stripe.. bla.

On second thoughts Morse the second one is nicer. I like the nav placement.

things to work-on:

1. FONT! said before, saying again... a nice (even if it's Free) font really adds texture to the content of any web page, which.. correct me if I'm wrong... is the reason to have a web page... right?

2. Texture: ok honestly what's up with the mid tone diagonal texture everyone and their dog is throwing up? can't depth be created in any other manner? and the subtle variation of light and dark play out in anything but stripes? what's your theme? is there a texture that help you tell your "story"?

3. Colour <-canadian spelling : Just to be argumentative, I have to take issues with other people's comments on the colours, I like 'em, they're different, unique. With a little tweaking (get an online colour wheel, pick your favourite and then find it's complimentary and opposite) and maybe fool with the brightness... this colour scheme could work...

it's a good start... specially for a CSS site... now all you need is a php/mysql backend and you have a winner :)

The third one is the best, but it's still not very good. On all of them the color schemes are very unattractive, it's something that you really need to work on. Color is crucial in design, it's the first thing that the mind notices when seeing a design, it's your first impression. The colors are the thing that makes ruins all of the designs for me.

I'm colorblind :sigh: :(

:thumb: Thanks for the comments guys! These'll certainly help :)

3rdeye: Got that already ;) Just need an interface for it :D

The layouts are ok, but that doesn't remove from the fact that the colours are terrible. Redo the images with different colours (search the forums for how to pick colours) and then repost.

The koala (I guess that's what it is?) isn't very appealing either.

You designed them in CSS and then took a screenshot? Why not just do up some concepts in a design package. Save you time and braincells.

What about some lorem ipsum? makes concept designs more "complete"... As said, i don't really like colors... at least desaturate them a bit more... it makes my head ache... but as i said before, some dummy text can "break" a bit that desert!!!

Those are done in photoshop.
