The way I have seen work, is to link with someone who is already listed, and have them do the same with your site...

In my opinion, the rest of the stuff (beyond your standard Metatags) is a waste of time...

Just from my own weak experience...

Ya ive got my site listed on a couple of good sites but how do I link back with flash site so a spider will pick it up. With the link back in an SWF it can't find it can it? If I put a link on my splashpage inside some comment tags will that work?

if you put lots and lots of redundant comments that has descriptions and keywords, etc. the search engine should spider it and put it close to the top depending on key words =)

what do you mean by linking back, or what ever. or, better yet where is phil's tut? where all the other ones are on kirupa.com or here in the forums?

There on kirupa. Just do a search. The linking back works like this. If you have a link to apopular site in your code and they have a link back to u it helps pull u up in the search engine. The problem with flash is the link back is inside a SWF. A spider can't find the link in a SWF and your arting goes down. I guess I should get on building an HTML section. :(

A hate HTML. I spend 8 hours at work with it:(

there lies the rub... that is why my main page is not 100% flash, as a general rule... I've been pretty lazy with my site as of late...

you can always put a link on a 1x1 image an load that into the top of your site...

it's tough at best. In the tests I have done, to get on google (the only one that is still a search engine, from what I hear) is making it's spyder happy. In other words, if you know of a site which is listed highly, then if you link to them and vice versa, then your site will appear within weeks, and work it's way up the rankings... the tough part is getting a site that is highly listed in your category to link to you, since it is usually a conflict of interest.

Ya all of the other search engines are now directories. It sucks:(

I have used an image to link quite a few things, and it seems to work quite well, and if you want, you can put them at the bottom of your pages...

The more you link to others (and have them reciprocate), the more chances you have to be listed.

The question then becomes, how important are the search engines? Most end-users I know don't use them because they can't find anything but ****, and they don't need a search engine to find that... :P

I know most users will never find my site with a search engine. The fact that i'm not listed just gets to me i guess.

I have never gotten a gig through a search engine...

The only way I get gigs, is by word of mouth. Either I know a guy, or someone sees my work and says who did that...

would you go to a dentist you found in the Yellow Pages?

The only people who come to my site through Google are people looking for things like "tickle the candy" or "lisa lips" and certain body parts of extreme sizes (for the sake of younger readers, I best leave out the specific keywords). Needless to say, all these people were disappointed.

The only way people find my site is through linkage from other related sites. So unless you are "hits-oriented" having your site Googled isn't that big of a deal. Work on networking with like-minded sites.

No, I'm just saying that I would rather go to a dentist that a friend recommended, rather than just picking one out of the phone book.

If you need to list your links (that you have in a swf) then create a transparent graphic 1x1.

Then place that graphic in your HTML (either in the top, or wherever), with a hyperlink to wherever you want the spyders to read. They don't know what is a spacer graphic, or a picture, or a banner...

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to do that now. :)

then, if you want to count how many times each link is clicked...

it involves frames...

it looks ugly on paper, but invisible on the web...

let me know if you want the recipe...

No it think i got it down. Ill just make the graphic the same color as my background. If istick them in the top corner nobody will find them. And if they do it doesn't matter. The link is in my site anyway. Thanks for all your help:)
