OK, it might not look like it took long but hell, this took a fair amount of my skill and cunning.
Unfortunately, my video streaming skills have gone awry because of all the effects and therefore, the video quality really doesn't do the work justice. I'll probably build a cool background page for it soon too.
Anyways, check it out at www.smelltheglove.net/tricky (http://www.smelltheglove.net/tricky)
I think it's like the first time you ever made something move in Flash and you thought it was the coolest thing and I'll probably laugh at it in the future but for now, I'd love your thoughts. And for eagle-eyed people, there's enough hidden mistakes here to warrant a million replies!
Thanks,
Dave
Edit: By the way, you'll need broadband! And crank your sound up!

I'm sure it HAS been done before--I'm from the UK but I've seen little snippets of ABC sports (is that the right name) and I think they may have done something like that before. Thanks for your comment though ;)

wow that is sweet, use after effects? Love the different glows for the balls. Maybe add some explosions on the net when they slam.

Originally, there were explosions but they cluttered up the area too much. I'm planning to make the net explode for "shots" where there's just the ball and the net and the camera is a little farther out. Having the ball, the trails AND the player all in the same area is enough but then putting in a big explosion is just gonna fill the entire screen!
I'll try a few different things with the explosions though.
And thank you very much for your comments! I love your footer by the way! How did you get the animation to trigger when the footer comes into focus, as in, I scroll down and can actually see it? See!? I noticed that!!

good job man... good job of object tracking too. i don't particularly agree w/ the music selection cause it doesn't seem to flow well... not as dynamic and boom like the jams.

I thought it worked out pretty well. I had decided I'd use that track before I even started the video y'see. Do you have any suggestions as to what you think would sound better?

I have an if statement at the beginning and i think it does it, i didnt do it on purpose.
num = Math.floor((Math.random()*9)/3);
if(num == 1){
num = 3;
}
gotoAndStop(num);
the code plays a random frame between frame 2 and 3 and if it hits frame one it automatically goes to frame three. So on frame 2 and 3 i have 2 different animations done in actionscript, one the bounce and one the elastic side thingy.
thanks for the compliment;)
is that an after effects plugin you used for the effects? if so which one?

Actually, I don't think it's the song really... I think it's more of the choriography (sp) than anything. Like it just shows straight jammin, but if you did something like when the song says "it's tricky, tricky, tricky" you show like 3 slams nice short and quick jammin into the hoop, that would ad just a litte more to it IMO.

Yeah, that's gotta be the next step. The hardest part is actually gotta be finding the footage! Ideally, I'd do that bit with just normal dunks rather than all those mad spinning dunks and stuff.
Does anyone know any good sites to download that kinda stuff from? NBA.com isn't actually that good surprisingly.

Yeah! That's exactly what my mate said!! So that's cool. NBA Jam was a classic--as a kid I used to say "He's on fire!" about every single event each day for a year!
And that dunk was insane! He actually goes over the top of the guy's head! And the look on the poor guy afterwards--he looks stunned! Thanks for the link--I'll archive it and use it in a future vid.
And thanks for the compliments mate, appreciate it.

Well NBA.com isn't for video or media archival purposes. But... I think one thing that you could do... is go buy or rent some like jam sessions and then create "backups" of them and just go about your normal cropping business :D. I'm sure this will look great when everything is done. I'm sure you're not doing this for money either but one place you could look i think is DigitalVision or GettyImages... they may have some types of videos. Of course they will cost you your first born child.

What the hell's going on with their website!? I can see the HTML rather than the formatted text! It would actually take a whole load more effort to mess it up like that than to actually make it work!

Which one is GJ? I used to be really into basketball but then our UK TV stopped showing it. A few years later and the NBA's full of a whole load of new layers I don't know!
