So here's the new version 2 flash portfolio. I think this is the third re-incarnation of this version. No content yet but the layout and menu is there. I have to work out some nice transitions - any suggestions?

Comments and critiques welcome. I can take it. :run:

Thanks

The animations are smooth, but maybe give it some ease though

Everything is eased. I think. What in particular needs easing?

Thanks

i agree with adam... go for the angular look, the stripes lend themselves to it and i think it wud look great...

that link is to a friend of mine at college... i think your challenge is to find a nav which works well at an angle like his...

i LOVED ure old logo, the P with a crown... please bring it back..

Thanks Billy.
I like my nav as it is. It'd be very hard to get those rollovers diagonally. THe transitions are definitely going to be angular.

As for the logo, you'll still be able to see it on all the sites I do from now on. It just doesn't fiot the style of the new site. Maybe on version 3 it'll make a come back.

Flash-matic - I'll see if I can make the animations a little faster.

your music menu on/off is kinda big. and maybe think about tossing the home button and make your logo the link to the "home" page.

dont like the font on buttons man...transition and button play is cool
the logo on the left..make it rotating(the circles) i think it 'd look better..some life on page, music buttons are quite big...use some pixel fonts man, anyways keep working on it i think ur on the right path, best of luck :thumb:

that background isn't working at all.
it doesn't tie up to the black border.

Nice site. The colors are cute. One thing I don't like is the font in the menu. Why not try another one, e.g. pexel? Keep up the good work. ;)

Screw 'em paddy, it looks great and I love the font on the menu. It brings uniformity to the page, why add a second font that doesn't match? I understand the "pixel" argument but it is comepletely readable. I can't believe you are in your teens, you've got amazing design instincts.

Sorry if you mistook my witty banter as fightin words, no offense intended. I happened to like the site alot and disagreed with most of the suggestions. Peace.

Paddy Duke, i'm sorry to say that but the initials for you logo "pd" is the word for gay in french, so it make me think of a label... you see ... :P

I like the site, specially the menu transitions.... but truthfully I prefered your old site, this one seems more like a great template for a client... maybe a clothing design company or something...

As for changes? well the menu doesn't stick to the design... it's the way the catch phrase, then the menu, then your name cut an opposite diagonal to the strong lines at the bottom left... it's overbalanced and seemingly accidental (read: new to design) I'd either try to align these three elements (uniform width) or use another graphical element to reinforce this effect. As for your logo... bring back the 'P' ;)

I'm sure a client would be wrapped to have a site like this... but you oh glorious designer beyond your years, deserve better! (sounds almost like my comments for the business card, don't it?)

looks good but maybe speed it up a bit, takes a while for the animation to get done.

Ooooo... I bet you were waiting for me to come across this one tweren't ya?

So... umm... ok. Colors are nice. For the most part it's pretty decent. I think there is a poor usage of white space.

Since the Nav is all you really have I can't judge to well. I think the animation is cool but, one thing I don't like is your font is big and gaudy touching the edges and all that jazz. It would be fine, except the fonts actually hold no design value... they are just there and so thin that it makes it seemingly weak.

I thought the opening enlargement thingy was kinda weak and uneccesary too. And the menu transition I think would look a little better if they came in a little faster and sorta overlapped in the animation instead of one starting after the first one ended.

That's my .05

Some nice critiques from everyone so thanks guys. About the buttons, I'm switching to a pixel font cos it looks cleaner.

I may change the menu a bit, I still want those rollovers but maybe make it a bit more "angular" as billystar said.

Hey Simp, I forgot about you :sigh:, but those are some good points. The growing box will be gone. Also how would you better use the white space that you pointed out?

Thanks everyone and keep those comments coming.

It's much more better now. I like the menu. Everythin' fits to its place. BUT the headline above the menu "nav" is blurry. Probably, you should change X(Y) axis coordinates. That's it. Good luck. ;)
P.S. Remove the Flash menu by adding: Stage.showMenu = false;

paddy.

Thanks Tommy. Yeah I hadn't got around to removing the menu. :)

I'm gonna try out a buch of fonts billy. That one's just 11pt Arial aliased. I'm still working on how to display the site's content.

At least the nav looks cool now.

Paddy Duke, try this font or Tahoma, for ex., when you build the content. Experiment with the fonts.

Nice one there. But on the nav when mouse over, it has alittle grey stripe under the blue. Was really irritating me, but dunno why. Prob only me too so dont bother change anything. lol

I like your logo, it looks **** cool :)

Imo i think you should spell out nav out, so it will be navigation.

Really nice work there :)
