Web Design Battle

Okay - The folks who set this battle ([link] (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82504)) asked me set a poll for them.

So.. cast your vote!

So in the days of Photoshop, Corel, Flash, Gradients, Transitions do people still possess basic design skills ?

What if we are given a system with just NotePad and Internet explorer and asked to create a website ? Will we be able to do so ?

So here are the rules :

1) No Grafics / Flash are allowed.
2) You can use Small images for Icons.
3) You can use client side markup languages like VML as an alternative for images.
4) You can use photoshop etc for color coordination but the final result can contain HTML and CSS only.
5) You can use HTML editing softwares like Dreamweaver, Frontpage etc as long as rule 1 is not broken.
6) Theme : Administration console, Can have the following :

links to various sections (like a control panel)
grids with data
editing area
logo and/or title (no grapfics / flash)
Anything you can think of


7) Client side only so no PHP/ASP etc will be required. Primary focus : design.
8) IE 6 should can be the main browser.... extra points for cross browser compatibility.

Edit: I think I've pushed the limits of CSS, well I tried to, took me lots of time to make my entry compatible with all browsers... Don't think many of the entry's work on all three major browsers... :P

I'm not at all trying to make publicity for my entry :lol: :P

i used to not have photoshop/flash so i would make plain layouts like these commonly. should've participated!

Same. Morses is by far the best. I don't like bwh2's, it's sloppy code a cheating style-switcher, his green style is actually broken. It's not valid XHTML...

//EDIT: I stand corrected, his green style isn't broken..IN IE! His site isn't even cross browser compatable.

I don't like bwh2's... It's not valid XHTML...yeah, i had one typo (repeated thrice) that prevented validation. just to show validation (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.haveri-media.com%2Fkirupadmin%2Findex_brown.html), i've changed that typo for the brown version.
