OK, I'm not one for the "How did they do this?" questions but if you log onto the site www.dawnofthedeadmovie.net (http://www.dawnofthedeadmovie.net/) (go see the movie too!) and click on the "Blackout" section. There's a nice "flashlight with smoke passing through the beam" effect. This is the kind of thing I'm looking to learn a bit more about and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about how they went about it.
I'm thinking they might have used a separate stand-alone program like particleIllusion but possibly, they've used some clever masking using a series of PNG's.
Also, there's some nice fire effects on the site too that I'm looking to learn a bit more about too.
