You should find your site before you think about making cards, it is all dependent on your site's colors, name, and other miscellaneous things

yeah I know... I just have too much work right now. This is just a temp thing for this one show, just something to give to companies at their booths.... I totally agree with you though. Pretty hack, but I have to have something.

.:: BUMP ::.
I'd seriously like some more input on this.. I have a bit more time I found before printing, but only a few days and it is really important to me (the show in Vegas will have around 2,000 companies there [the largest convention in the US]). Input would be awesome, thanks!!!
Oh in case youre wondering the show is the SEMA show.

What I would do:
I would put you URL in the upper left, rather than your company name (they are essentially the same)
I would add a telephone number, and fax if you have one...
I would remove the word "senior"... it is drastically over used, and can be viewed as "conceited" by some anal retentive designer... let your work do your bragging for you...
If the main purpose of the card is to get work, then your URL should be larger than the rest, and the design should mimic your site... If the main purpose of the card is to get your name out there, then your name should be larger than the rest...
You might also wish to add a line which explains what you do... like Flash AS, Photoshop, ASP, etc. cuts down on your card getting thrown in the trash 5 sec after they leave you...
Just remember, there will be thousands of people trying to do the same thing you are, so you need a hook... but a hook that isn't just a hook...
never say, it's just something to give to the guys at the booths...otherwise, you are just asking them to throw it away...
People who are impressed by you will remember you by your card, only if your card gives them a reason to remember you...kinda cryptic, but true...
=) From my years in doing print media...

very good input Rev.... fax and phone: always changing as I am moving so thats why theyre not on there. Also I should have included this fact: I also made a "flyer" to hand out with the card too, it mimics the design of the card and lists all the spftware and languages I know. Your comments on the use of senior: I think I agree - probly chnge that!
Ok, the main point is to get my email/url out there.... so youre saying that I should ditch the url at the bottom, make the Co name at the top the url and increase the size while decreasing the size of everything else? Thanks again for the input - I love outside oppinions from other designers.

in a nutshell... yup... =)
intead of a flyer.. how about using the back of the card? Most people will not keep a flyer... takes up too much room, plus they are going to have a "bag" full of flyers... and a pocket full of cards...
I would still use at least a phone # ( I have moved a lot too )... people like to talk to the designer, get a feel how they work with people (the person you give the card may not be the person who contacts you for a gig)...

I am doing a site for a company that is going to that show. He said it was very expensive to have a booth there but it should be well worth the effort. Las Vegas is always a great place to be that's for sure :)
As for your card, I really agree with the idea of making a 2 sided buisness card, I know it's a bit more money but it's really worth it. That way it's got ALOT less chance of being thrown out if it's upside down on a table and people are clearing space or cleaning up. Trust me, it sounds stupid but it's true.
I also noticed you dont really have a logo - but I like the look of the "honey combs" on the card. Maybe you should try and put that into your design on the front of card as well
I know it's not a lot of ideas but it's a bit more on what has already been said - reverendflash seems to have summed most of it up! :)

yeah.. thanks for the input!
I cant.. well I should say wont.. do two sided because this isnt my permenent card/logo/design, only for this one occasion, so I dont want to drop the cash for the printing.... I agree I need a logo, and when I come up with one I'll put that on a two sided card, this is like a bandaid just for this show - if I had cash comming out of my ears, I'd have it printed in 8 colors, double sided, on egg-shell linen! :P
I really agree with everything you guys have said though... and the stuff that costs more (like two sided) will dfinitly be on my permenent card.
Any and all other oppinions welcome, cuz this stuff is really helping me plan for my next "real" card!!

I'm with the Rev, I would have to pick #2 as well, but not because of the Greatful Dead, but because it does leave nothing to change.
Plus it kind of breaks up the constant simatry *spelling* with the surrounding lines.
Very sharp IMO - Great work

if you put a website on there then you dont even really need much on the card. i mean if you have your number and email address on the site, and your url on the card why would you need to take up space you could fill with other chit?
on my card its just my name and website with a small graphic in the back. simple, clean, nice.

I like the second design. Mabue put a little more space between the strokes though. I would also try something other than the honey combs. I know they look nice but so many people use them. If U want to stand out u have to do something different. I also agree with rev. U should have your url first and larger. If u want people to see your work they have to clearly know where to go. People hate reading small print. Good Luck at the show. Wish I lived close enough to vegas so I could go :*(

yes number two is much better in my opion, its just cooler.
Now on topic of the card, i do agree w/sintax . The text should be a bit bigger. The hony comb effect looks cool, although is used alot by others.

Iagree it is way over used.. I dont use it on my site, and I wont use it on my permentant cards... well thry're already at the printing place, so they'll have to do for this one event! I'm going to post stuff when I get back for my permentent stuff, I want to get some more feedback from you guys!! Thanks for all the input on this stuff!

As a thought, how about putting a screenshot of your website on the reverse of the card? That would then give them an immediate sense of your style and talent?

Rev gives some excellent advice.
Here's my two cents: I think it looks great - I like how the honeycomb bleeds beyond the borders and it provides a nice background. However, you might want to increase the margins for the text. They seem to almost be falling off the edge. Plus there's a little too many type faces/styles for such little information. Try picking two combinations and sticking to that. Other than that, you seem to be pointed in the right direction. Good luck with everything.
