Norton Anti-Virus 2005 or Mcafee 2005?

Question: What anti-virus software would you rater have protecting your home or business network? Support your choice with some facts like protection, and other features in your answer.

Feel free to compare features and other important information also.

I would go with McAfee. I've had both at some point or another, and Norton messes up too many things, installs, downloads, etc. Actually though, it never did that to me, only my friend's computer, but I've never had any problems with McAfee.

Well for home, I would choose Norton for support, its good features such as the tracking and the sophisticated scanning and the GUI. Thats if I the money to keep subscribing. For business, I have never used Mcafee, but I think both are pretty much the same (If you guys can give me more information, I would like to hear it).

In terms of general home use, I would say neither. Norton of course used too much memory. Whilst it maybe ok for users with much RAM, for someone like me, I would just prefer Grisoft's AVG with the added Adware or right now, MS' Anti-Spyware.

Norton AV 2005, but I haven't used mcafee. I read a lot of bad reviews about NAV2005 on amazon where people said they were unable to install it, etc. etc. etc. So I downloaded the 30-day trial, and I had no problems. It's memory usage was comparable to that of NAV2003, and it seemed to work well. I also disable everything except virus scanning, so I can't say how much trouble you would have if you enabled all of the bells and whistles.

I've been using Norton AV since the early 90's, and I haven't used mcafee outside of seeing it in my school. So I'm not sure if norton is better than mcafee, but nav does a good job doing what it is supposed to.

I did have Norton until, suprise suprise, I began to get viruses. So I switched to McAfee and I've not had any problems yet...CLUNK, CLUNK.....ehrm thats the sound of me knocking on wood ;)

i think the older versions of NAV were volitile, but with this new version (2005) i feel that i am protected. With the enhansed scanning engine, it seems more powereful and ready to take on anything. So this is why im comfortable with NAV. =)

Well the truth is... NO anti-virus program will keep you 100% protected (yet another reason to switch to Mac :) ). There have been some viruses that even shut them down, and keep you from updating or even going to their sites. Both are good for home users, since for a "home" user memory isn't usually a problem since most aren't powerusers. I go w/ NAV because MAV virus definitions are rediculously long, in comparison to NAV because they re-download the whole definition database instead of adding changes or adding onto it. But I haven't used that in about 1yr so it may be changed.

I used norton all my life till this year when I got Mcafee no problems yet TOUCH WOOD! its a lot faster on startup too HOWEVER I have heard that Norton is the best :)

I have used both and Norton wins hands down ... if youre worried about speed just do what kirupa said and disable everything and only run the virus protection. I had Mcafee last year on my old pc and was having problems ... installed Norton and it found some nasties lurking around that the upto date Mcafee missed all together ...

Iv been using Nortons since 2002 - Have never had any problems with it at all - Iv also heard that nortons is one of the better antivirus programs to use. Although if you are going to purchase it, i reconmend Nortons System Works 2005, it comes with Nortons Antivirus, =) =)
