Hi my friend makes stories and I'd like to have a simple site where he can post them. I'd like it to be a close color / font scheme as this site: www.wicked6th.com/ask/

Details Details: Small fonts (around 8-10) and same color scheme (unless you have a better idea)

I'd like it so that he can go to some page like www.mysite.com/news/postnews.php or something and thats where he goes to post his stories. I'd like for him to be able to input a title name for the story also.

If in the end the site comes out just how I like it I'll pay you $30. I'm not rich so I'm sorry.

You may want to look into mambo or something to that effect.

"If in the end the site comes out just how I like it I'll pay you $30"

Personally, that scares me. I wouldn't start working without a deposit. Mind you, I wouldn't do it for $30 either.

The best option would be to get a blog. You can post stories and customise the look all you like. There are heaps of them around.

I think dreeft had it right with the blog idea actually - places like http://www.modblog.com can be customised and are ad-free.

I'd be happy to make a logo for it if wanted though.

suggestion:

if you want to get virtually free work out of someone, why don't you try to make them understand and feel passionate about the benefits of the site being up. Instead of insulting us all and sayin "If I'm happy...I'll through you a bread crumb."

If you are only paying $30, and you don't like what someone else has done...you can afford to hire someone else (10 times) And don't try to tell people that "you're not rich...and $30 is all you can afford" because that's crap. I'm sure you spend more than that on fast food, or cigarettes, or something to that effect that you could give up for a month.

Okay sorry -this guy hit a sore spot for me.

No reason to apologize.
The "I'm not rich" line is the best. Like designers are loaded.
I think I spent $30 at Starbucks last week. Give me a break. :)

If all you can do is taunt a person for asking about something they want, EVEN after they offer you something in return, as little as it may be, then you obviously are not as good at your talent in this section as you think. A person does what they can because they like doing it. The outcome of such a thing does not matter. Only that they tried. But if this is your natural response towards people, then things are better off without you.:m:

absolutely true. passion is what drives people to do things. money is a secondary factor xD anyway, will it do if your site is at blogspot? everything else would be quite simple ...

You will be amazed to see how many people actually dives into those teenie weenie projects for $$$ not for passion... and those people think that they are doing a good job for them... :(

See, now thats how things should be done. Of course money has to be made. And there times when you can earn it. But if what is offered to you is a small sum, the person should like the job enough to accept it even with that little gain.

I don't think anybody was attacking the idea of probono work.
It was the way the guy worded it, (i.e. I'll throw you some pocket change if it comes out just the way I like it.) That's what people were commenting on.

It would be great if money wasn't a factor, but when you have bills and rent coming in every month, using up more of your time sitting in front of a computer screen needs to be worth your while. Whether it's for profit or just to do something nice.
You catch more flies with honey, you know? ;)

*feels the love* Really, I think you all need a bit of a chill. Maybe spend some time on vacation with girls or so, as whenever someone posts something you only slightly not like, you go way flaming.

It's fun to read all of them though,

people in web design and development give themselves so much discredit it's untrue - would a builder or a plumber or a doctor do this sort of thing - work for almost nothing?

I think not.

What is the difference between one of the above mentioned and a web designer? it's a skill like any other surely.

phone a plumber and ask him to come around and fit a new bathroom and say - hey i'll pay you 30 dollars. Write back after you have done it and let us all know what he said please.

donot care about this if you are not willing to do it
this might not be for someone so professional as you but someone who is just trying to build their portfolio up
they dont care what they get paid

Some people need the money though in order to live. Most of the people that are charging a lot of money are doing it freelance, and it is how they make money in order to pay bills.

sparky - i'm not a pro - no way :)

All I am saying is that web design and development is a very poor cousin to any other skill in the world (even stacking shelves at the local supermarket) and many expect to get it for almost free (clients in general). I don't mind that guy coming here and asking for help with his site - good luck to him and anyone who can build up a portfolio by building him a site.

Its just so sad that this web development industry is so low in peoples respect. To most ordinary folk on the street web designers are ten a penny and lets face it, anyone with a copy of frontpage does it for themselves anyway -free of charge.

he might have been a guy that has never had anybody do a website like that for him
so he is a noob
keeping that in mind we can tell that he doesnt know anything about the cost of how much it would be
instead of helping him out people are just humiliating him
if you can go back and find the thread that was posted by cubanazo who offered a job
you can see how some people were
the same thing happened here
people are not respecting anyone

thesparky007: I agree with you, I have lost my all interest in this 'Job Offerers' section because all my time in kirupaforums (not much, but anyway), all that I have seen here, it's very few who in fact talks anything about that if someone is willing to do something, it's allways just mocking and humiliating :(

This seems like such a pattern in this forum why do people still dare to ask for free work here? Strange indeed.you would think people got their fair share of toung lashings...I guess not.

There's definetly been a definite increase in Post-bashing. I posted earlier in this thread, but i was seriously considering taking on this offer. After contacting the thread starter, i found out that he had already gotten someone to do it. But, he definetly was going to think twice about posting on kirupa again...

A discussion has been made and you are 100% correct.

I am going to start cleaning out this forum, and unfortunatly anyone bashing price's etc or going off topic will be temp banned, no matter if they are a vauled member or not.

I can't say I blame some of you, however this must stop right now. Thread closed.
