Hey People,

Just looking for some crits on this layout I'm working on. As always good and bad comments are welcome.

If you don't have any comments please at least let me know if you like the colours.

Thanks

Actually I really like it, color is good too. Only a couple of things seem slightly off, but they're really small:

-The division/curve between the logo and the navigation. It looks to me like it needs to be either removed or made sharper. Right now it feels like trying to compromise with having it there.

-Somewhat related, the White area for content seems like it's just dropped on top of everything. At least partly because nothing else seems that sharply square. A slight rounding or shading would help immensely.

But overall I like the look. To my eye anyhow it comes across as quite professional.

Thanks stratification. I totally agree with you about the white box thing.

Here's another one with a slighty modified colour.

I agree with strat, round the edges of the white square and it will look better.

Otherwise, very professional and slick, nice job!

nice... i see a few things that could be touched up on... but have limited time ATM... hit me up on AIM tonight if you're not partyin and plastered :P

I also think that the first layout is a better color, it's much more classy than the platinum look... i think u just like platinum to much :P

BTW... I don't se any bowling pins on this layout... what's the deal

Nice CG I like it.

Things I noticed:
>The stuff on the right side (mailing list etc.) looks out of place. It's too modern and techy for the rest of the layout. Also the submit button is UGLY.

>I think you need a serif font for the nav and titles, or at least something a little less bold than what you have. Kinda keep in theme with the logotype. [I'm wavering on this front as the fonts are growing on me, except the techy font in the bottom right.]

>What is the arrow to the right of the nav? It looks strange and a bit out of place.

>I still think the logo/nav divider needs to be sharper.

>I think the colours in the first one are nicer. They seem more inviting and not as cold as the colours in the second picture.

>The white content area still looks a little out of place. Maybe inset it into the layout a bit or at least give it some decent edges.

>At the very top right there is what looks like a bevel gone wrong. What is it and what is it for?

>Is the bit the logo is on supposed to be raised forward? If so then you mend want to put a little 's bend' in the pale coloured lines to make it look more realistic.

Okay I'm taking Simplistik's place now with the nit picking now but I do like this layout despite it's flaws. If you just iron out these bugs then you'll be flying.

Keep up the good work.

I personally like the second set of colors better but they are both nice. The only thing I would do different is make that "V" shape that hangs down between "New Years Special" and "Our Mission" divided so that line that divides the logo and the nav cuts all the way staight down. see the attached pic. Anyway just my 2cents. Great job... :thumb: :thumb:

:thumb: Canadianguy this is brilliant... I really dig the colors, that is almost the color scheme of my new site... you rock dude.....
The layout looks very professional, very clean, and the navigation seems straight forward.
Just one thought tho.... how heavy is this going to be? seems like the pages will be wieghty, whatdaya think?

 you did a decent job at it FG... but you still need work. And I thought that arrow thingy you pointed out was supposed to be a sound toggle. IDK, LoL

So thats what it is. Maybe.

I know I need work, but I'm only starting. Gimme a few rubbish noobie sites (http://www.urbanecho.tk) and I'll rip 'em to shreds.

Did I miss anything you thought of Simp?

 Simp. Actually, 2 bowling alleys that wanted sites decided to hold off for awhile but I just got another 2 gigs that are bowling related (one really fun one I'll fill you in on the details). WTF I can't get away from this stuff? I have so many bowling graphics it makes me sick. I'm running out of ideas as well.

FlashGordon, tsk tsk tsk. How dare you say that my favourite font should be replaced with a serif font! *slaps flashgordon with white glove* I sir challenge you to a duel. We'll choose fonts at dusk. I agree with pretty much every other point you made. Good stuff. Thanks

GP there's not much content so I'm just going to throw it in frames or possibly just make it all flash. I don't think it'll be 'weighty' at all being that many of the graphics can be tiled or reused in html or simply vectors in flash.

I have to say that I'm a little surprised that most of you like the first colours better. I guess I'll go ahead with.

Thanks everyone

any special reason for the substitute of lorem ipsum with your other text?

*i assume that the paint company doesnt just do iraqi barracks*

cg: one of the best layouts ive seen from you yet...

first set of colors look nicer in my opinion - the second one is nice, but too dark for a "paint" client...

only thing i see is maybe work on the bottom right header graphics you know like "top quality paint" looks kind of cut off with that arc like that...
