just thought we'd try and see what everyones favourtie movie from the last 12 months were

favourite of 2004: I'm gonna say the latest Harry Potter was the best I seen. Different from the rest and thoroughly enjoyable. The child actors really came into their own in this movie, an experienced performance from a few kids who in the first one looked really nervous who have now matured (slightly) and are proving to be a great cast for some great movies.

I'd also like to give a mention to Lost in Translation. I know it was released in the states in 2003, but we didn't get it until Feb 2004. Great movie.

worst of 2004: Not the worst movie I ever saw but I was disappointed by 'The Incredibles'. Got so much hype, even heard one reviewer say it was better than Toy Story. Sorry but I didn't think so. Animation was amazing butu we've come to expect it now. Story was a bit slow at first and I've never seen a worse case of wasting Samuel L Jackson ever.

eager for 2005: can't wait to see War of the Worlds and King Kong however the ultimate movie for next year, I think anyway, will be Batman. Just a big Batman fan and I can't wait to see what they've done this time. It looks promising :thumb:

what movies did you enjoy this year

**** i hate how australia is so behind in everything... the incredibles doesn't open here til sunday! how slow is that! we lag behind in everything....

fav movie of 2004: ummn i'd have to agree with harry potter i found it dark and disturbing - which made it way cooler than the normally preppy pre-pubescent (dunno how to spell it) potter.... (ha ha ha alliteration overuse there)....

ummn i also liked starsky and hutch and dodgeball...

worst: i cant actually say that i saw a movie i thought was a waste of money... although i look at some movies i didnt's see and go "why why why?" (especially at garfield in which they cant even make odie look right)... and i saw "mean girls" later on as a dvd and thought it was WAY overated... i hate lindsay lohan... talk about tanorexic....

eager: uummmn the next harry potter! but that's the book i think that's coming out next year... woo hoo cant wait... oh yeah when does the fantastic four come out? i wanna see that as well...

Best movies:
The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Oh yeah. Great plot, good actors, SFXOMG!!
Nobody Knows. Japanese movie about 4 kids left alone in their tokyoite house. Based on a true story (which makes you happy, when you get out of the theater, that your mother NEVER acted that way)
Lost In Translation (came out in 2004 in France ;) )
Mondovino Documentary about wine and the WTO. Scary.
Maria Full Of Grace. Drug movie. Good. Good. Good.

Wost Movies:
DodgeBall. No plot, bad actors, bad humor, nothing.
Banlieue 13. French movie. No plot, VERY BAD actors, no humor at all, nothing. Some karate moves.

Spiderman 2 and Dawn of the Dead - Best Movie(s) this year.
And I think The Incredibles is the best Pixar has made thus far.

Elf - The Worst and most overrated this year.

A comedy/drama for me, The Longest Yard, remake. The list is way too long.

I can't believe someone mentioned "The Incredibles" as their worst movie. And putting Harry Potter in front of it? Boggles my mind. I really liked Harry Potter, but talk about a story dragging...

The Incredibles was by far and away the best movie of the year in my book. The mix of humor, imagination, attention to detail, cleverness and flatout fun made it my favorite Pixar movie (though I really like them all).

Close:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Great story, great acting.
Spiderman 2: Outshines the first one.

Worst:
Stuck on you: not even Matt Damon could save this. Ughh.

Looking Forward To:
The Aviator, the Life Aquatic. (both 2004)

I forgot about Hero. The special effects were really good, and the story wasn't shabby either. I'm a sucker for martial arts movies anyway.

I liked a lot of those worst movie choices :-/. My worst is EASILY Spiderman 2. THAT was overhyped and SUCH a load of poo that I almost didn't even let myself finish it though I kept hoping it would get better (it didn't). I dont know about best. nothing really blew me away this year. I guess incredibles was the best I've seen.

ok a couple objections to my hating the Incredibles...

sorry but I just didn't like it. Samuel L. Jackson was in it for a period of 10-15 minutes which made me think they'd gave him a part just so he could take part in the marketing of the movie and that bugged me.

Toy Story and Monsters Inc. was aimed at kids but it was good enough for adults to enjoy it too. It was if this was just a coincedence and not something they planned for because I think they tried to plan for it this time and failed miserably. I've yet to meet a kid who loved it. When Finding Nemo came out kids were just dying to tell you about it, not so with the incredibles.

It wasn't funny. The number of characters that made me laugh were 2, and thats not good from a movie like this.

Manchurian Candidate was good but the more I thought about it the more holes I picked in the plot. Still enjoyable if flawed. Meryl Streep's fantastic in the movie.

Harry Potter was good but on reflection I'm not sure it was my movie of the year. I didn't actually see a lot of movies that we're released this year though. For instance I haven't seen Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind, Hero or Collateral. Haven't even seen mystic river yet.

On reflection I'm changing my film of the year to 'Lost in Translation'. (that we didn't get in the UK until Feb 2004). I'm a big Bill Murray fan and I just thought this was the perfect role for him. Great performace. Scarlett's good in it too but the real star is Japan, makes me wanna visit even more.

Oh and I agree, Spiderman 2 was bad. The whole middle where he quit being Spiderman to be Peter Parker the worlds most boring man just dragged down what was a good movie. And stop taking off the mask Tobey, Spiderman never did why are u?

Looking Forward To:
The Aviator, the Life Aquatic. (both 2004)The Life Aquatic...

And I can see your point concerning The Incredibles. It's nowhere near Nemo, that's a fact, but I don't care whether the kids like it or not: it's still much better than 99% of the movies out there :)

My favorites: Farenheit 911, The Incredibles, and Lost in Translation, maybe.
My worsts: Alien vs Predator, probably.

the scripts still being rewritten. The guy who wrote the Shawshank Redemption did the script but Spielberg didn't like it, so since then it's been re-written and re-written. It's been like this for a year now. Ford says he'll play Jones again but even he's not sure when it will be. I can't wait for it either. Sitting in the cinema when all of a sudden that famous Indiana Jones tune starts...that's gonna be so cool :thumb:

what's this you're gonna burn my house down

I hope another indiana jones doesn't get made. I know its Speilberg and Ford, but come on. Ford is in his 60's, and the thing that made the trilogies great was the creative storytelling and creative special effects, as well as the characters.

My bad movies for this year include
Friday Night Lights
Troy
Saw
Dawn of the Dead (Romero's version = greatness)
Spider-man 2
Man on Fire
Manchurian Candidate

a couple others I cant remember.

The better movies of 2004 were
Garden State
Closer
Team America
Fahrenheight 911
Kill Bill 2
Shaun of the Dead
Super Size Me

Some decent movies were Miracle, Anchorman, The Village, and Ray.

Im really excited about Life Aquatic as well.

#1 - The Incredibles, it was awesome!
#2 - The terminal (I only saw it last saturday :O )
#3 - Harry potter

Worst, I dunnow, I try not to think why a film is rubbish, and theres probably films that I've seen that were terrible, which I don't really care to remember.

And yes, after about 5 months break, I might be coming back to kirupa and being a regular poster :O

This shouldn't count because I saw it 2 years or more ago via a Chinese DVD. It took that long to get released in the USA.
