well.. over the years ive gone through so many 'company' names and logos that i'm almost dead.

i think i might've finally settled on one (and i need to because im really trying to be serious about my design work from this point forward)

the idea is a company that is relaxed and almost against the idea of an organized group of people designing things. just someone doing what they do best and pumping out nice work and that should be all that matters.

this thread isnt about the content but ive got some nice unique (i think) content written up and some more good ideas.

one of which is having a two dimensional site.

the first would be the professional side and the second would be the fun and super relaxed side including a SOTW part, tutorials, resources, maybe a blog type thing as well as some other funny/joke parts and some funny videos that my friends and i produce in our free time.

the little gnomes in my brain are already thinking of a neat transition between the professional (clean) and relaxed (dirty) parts of the site.

ANYWAY, back to the point of this thread: my logo. I'm trying to keep it clean and simple (the way i like to do my design)

here it is! (sm is attached, large has link) (dont ask about clouds, its all part of the master plan >:O)

let me know what you all think!

OOOO I really like that logo.... but I really don't like the negative tag line. The truth of the matter is that a lot of people work for big companies and are glad to be doing it so you're kind of taking them out at the knees by saying you're the anti-company. I happily work from home and I really don't understand the 'climb to the top of the corporate ladder dream' but I'd never condemn those that do. You know what I mean? Instead of being "anti", be "pro" and you're off and running.

i can dig what you're sayin, canadian guy, and you're probably right.

it's naieve of me to think large companies will go for 'the little guys that fight the system.' they'll end up going with the leading edge hot stuff pretty boys.

i guess you prolly wont like the actual slogan i was thinkin of using:

"progressive design !@#$ slogans are for idiots."

hehe.. keep in mind this was last night at 2 am... and i was considering my site to be less of a 'hire me' site and more of a 'well i exist and you should acknowledge that and if you like my **** then hire me' kind of thing.

and i like this mentality but it makes more sense to be positive and not negative. :( :)

thanks for the reply!

LoL... umm... ok :h:

I like that logo... it's nice and simple. While I don't get any type of reference of a design company from the logo, I still think it looks good. But also think it'd be more appropriate for like a recycling company. Anti company is harsh... but I like it :D

Well I'm wishing you luck for starting this project :) now about your logo...once in my lifetime there was a art director that told me once...the spacing between the letters is very important especially when you design logos! so In my opinion I would squezze the lettering more tight...just a litlle :) I like the letter e...thats cool...I wanna see see it bigger on black and white...

It looks much better little.

I didn't like the blown up version, the e doesn't work for me.

dreeft, i know what you mean... and in fact the two are pretty much different versions.

i couldnt use a vector to mask the e and i so the mask is raster.. therefore i couldnt scale it up / down without getting a blur on the mask which resulted in a less than desirable effect.

i dont plan on using this logo in a large version so it shouldnt be a problem.. but i didnt create the large vector version so that you all could see the logo in a less pixelated format.

ill see what i can do about changing the tracking and putting it on a white BG.

thx!

well here goes... i kinda like it with the tracking reduced.

unfortunately i couldnt reduce the tacking on the entire word because it makes the arrow cross the "i" entirely and that just looks bad.

so instead of doing that, i reduced tracking on _just_ the 'install' part of the word and after some tweaking of the tracking between the e and i it turned out swell.

lemme know what ur thinkin.

the blue logo....try making re in white and install in black and other way around...somehow I feel that the slogan and the logo dont go together...tracking is much better on the big logo :)

hah, well the original jpg for this test was.. erm a lil too big, check the attachment XD XD

anyway, i changed compression and it fits. check it out and let me know what you think, mr.mass.

im thinkin something like keeping the 're' or 'install' part one color and changing the opposite part depending on the section of the site.

something little like that might be cool.. have a specific color for print projects, web projects, motion projects, flash projects, etc...

what did you make this in? It needs kerning big time

dyren
December 25th, 2004, 04:08 AM
i used photoshop 7. ill adjust the kerning in a minute. i changed overall tracking on the 'install' part but ill tweak it right now.

(sry i dont know much about typography.)

here it is, changed the kerning between the r and e... anything else that needs adjustment?
