Plotting of variable line chart with MX?

I'm currently looking into a project which requires a line chart to be generated from an external data source (XML) with a variable number of points.

I currently have no idea of how to tackle this. Any input would be most appreciated.

The XML file is generated from a database and accessed by the swf.

Have you had any experience in this area?
