i have final got a free host to test out early stages of what will my online portfolio. at the moment i only have the top three sections of the main page completed and the intro will definatly change. I would like some comment on the buttons, text, transitions and layout used. I like the layout and stuff on the site and will only make minor changes, if i like the idea.
see it here: http://fire.prohosting.com/byrnzie/
don't mind the adds

sorry but the ads just put me off, I wouldn't normally hang around so long on a site that has so many and you have a lot...2 is more than enough
again I had to scroll to see the flash movie too, do you really need adverts in the pop up as well
not much happening in the intro
font for the menu's a bit bulky
colours are ok
transitions are ok, just nothing special...sorry but this line thing has been done to death already
shows signs of promise but the ads are all I'll remember 3 hours after seeing this site

jayemsee: sorry about the adds but i'm just using this as a test server while i complete the site. When i get more of the site done i will find a pay host, the pop-up window was sized with out the adds. Also i thought i was using 30 fps.
RabBell: same thing with the adds
aslo i mentioned that i have no idea what to do with the intro any ideas, i think that it is the areathat i'm having the most trouble with.
with the line thing and colours i was trying to copy a style used on a poster for my school as it got alot of good comment on style, even from peopel that did art. is there anyway i could add to the transitions to make them stand-out more?
thnx for the comments both of you, i'll try to adress some of the things you pointed out.

there's nothing that says you need an intro, if you can't think of what to put in it perhaps its a sign that you don't need one.
mind you if your hearts set on it then I'd suggest going to the SOTW forum and maybe you'll be inspired.

^^ or if you cant afford some hosting yet, then at least get a better free server than the one that your using! its caked in ads!!!
Try something like: www.netfirms.com - it does have ads but only one banner at the top,

If you're building a portfolio site, try and consider your target audience. If you're going for the late teen/early 20 something demographic, it might have a few takers, but if you're going for a more professional end, I'd say simplify.
Flash is a great tool, but unless you're going to build a game site or a movie site, it should be used sparingly. Think of it like animated gifs.
Also, you could probably scrape up a few bucks and get some web hosting. It's really not too expensive.
Keep at it.
