Made this for a company called: "International Procurement Company"
They source, manufacture and import things from overseas. Basically they 'get stuff' so a company has all the components they need to finish production on their product. The idea was to portray these concepts graphically:
"Bringing something in"
"Supplying a piece of the whole"
"Completeing the project/puzzle"
At first they just wanted to use the letters put in the center of an oval. I eventually got them to try something a little more creative and graphically based. They really like it... let me know what you think. ;)

very cool. what also might look good is if you added color, making all the pieces that fit together one color and the one that is detached a different color. just a thought;)

Yeah there will be color added in some cases as well as other effects... this is like the B/W stencil version - basically just the shape.
I'm glad you like it!!

Also.. pull back the width of the "C". I looks a bit over powering. You also might want to reduce the size of the circle to make the proportion of the Text seem better...

nice concept. Id work on the font though if that's not already a plan.

the font could use some treatment but over all it is a good concept. Maybe have the piece that is coming be red or something to suggest action.

Remove the circle ! :D and use thin fonts for the text. Nice logo man ! :thumb:

Ok.... here's what they are currently digging:

This will be on their splash. The text is still in developement, but they seem to like the text as plain as possible - allowing the graphic to take center stage. What is finalized (I think, but you never know with clients!) is the graphic part.... that two-tone look is a take and thats how it will appear in print (obviously minus the blur effect - they freakin' LOVE that :sigh: ).
Im happy thus far... I've hardly been working on this long, and havent been able to brainstorm with the owners very much - so this pace of progression is very acceptable for me.
How is everyone feeling this effort (mainly the graphic, but comment on the text too if you like - not that its much to comment on ;))

The dark green on grey background really bugs me. It would look fine on a white background, though you'd have to modify your graphics. The graphic looks fine. Nice work.

I agree about the green... below I've made it darker, I have to keep it somewhat green though, but I think this makes it a bit easier on the eyes.
Thanks for the input... and Im glad you like the graphic portion!

the lines between the shapes need to be defined more. Add a lil more space between them. At small sizes they will get lost. As well as lose the glow. Keep it clean. Use the glow if you are design print material that needs it. Always best to keep the logo clear of filters that will hinder printing.

I like where you are going with this logo. The icon is memorable, and I like the size variation in the text. It puts an emphasis on what they do over the fact that they are a company. Nice touch.
I would suggest losing the drop shadow and making the whole thing 2 colors instead of 3. Maybe replacing the black with green. 2 colors is pretty standard for a corporate logo, and makes printing cheaper. Losing the grey background would make the type pop more.
Overall, this is a very good design.

DDD: yeah, the lines are more pronounced without the effect added. That blur effect will not be used in print items - they just loved it for the splash image.
Here is what is getting to be the final 'clean' image. This is a B&W version for print:

Comments welcome.... I'm doing a color version now,I'll put it up when I'm done.

Oh... thats what you meant. Yeah, I have component image files in order to increase the seperation as needed for smaller images like you're talking about. ;)

I'm glad you like the finished product! I just finished doing their biz cards... now Im laying out letter heads and other office stationary. I've also begun their website, which, being corporate needs to be pretty plain.... but I think it's going to look cool when I'm done. I'll be sure to post when I'm finished!

Hey Ryall wow the logo really developed and the sight is looking good. Where did you learn design? Any good books you would recommend?

Well.... I am all self taught. I've always been into line art (pencil, pen, etc) and drew tons throughout my life - which helped, because as we all know: practice makes perfect! ;) :P
As far as books.... I've really only read stuff on programming (C, Perl, PHP, ActionScript) and of course Flash... for Flash stuff anything by 'Friends of ED' will teach you alot.
For just straight-up design.... "TYPOGRAPHY, an encyplopedic survey of..." is a great (HUGE) book all about typography and its uses through time. Great for inspiration. Plus its published in four languages in ONE volume! yeah! :sigh:
"Elements of Graphic Design" is a small short read, that is really pretty basic. I think most designers would just pass it up as it deals with some basic concepts. BUT it really helps put things into words - as in that looks good, but why? MOST importantly it deals with White, or negative space and its use in design. I feel this is an extreamly important thing to learn about, and something that is often overlooked!
Other than that, graphic design mags are good (though they are dam*n expensive) and of course just surfing the net, reading and looking.
Everyone says it, but its true... practice is the most valuable thing you can do. If you don't have any ideas or projects going... draw a random product out of a hat and design an identity for a fictitional company that will produce it.... stuff like that, while sounding lame, will help you more than anything.
Hope all that crap above was slightly informative :P PM me if you want to chat further.
Peace
