Hi,

I am building my own PC for the first time and have found it relatively simple apart from one thing, the setting on the motherboard for "CLK_SW".

I have the Gigabyte GA-700N400 Pro2 motherboard, 400FSB, and am using an athlon xp 3200+ socket A processor.

There are two possible settings for the "CLK_SW" but im baffled as to which one to use - in the manual it reads like this....

Default Setting : OFF

ON = AUTO (Supports FSB 400/333/266 Mhz CPU)
OFF = 100Mhz (Fix FSB 200 Mhz CPU)

.... my thought is that it would be set to "ON = AUTO" as its 400FSB but someone said that having ddr ram would mean its 200 Mhz, Also why would they have a relitevely new motherboard have the default setting as what i can see as a lower spec?

Hope someone can help and explain this to me.

Help much appreciated, thanks, Chris.

leave it on auto

that particular speed doesnt have to do with ram and the application that person said doesnt' apply. like yes the cpu fsb can relate to the ram's clock speed, and yes you can balance your system in that fashion, however the particular mode it would be running at in the "off" position would not be beneficial and cause more problems.
