Hello Jay,

I'm loving the layout and I think it's going to look great, the colours font and the way the layout is set out is brilliant. I can't wait until the final product.

Danny.

Caldendar? :P

Nice though - are you going to do it with CSS/XHTML? That sort of design really wouldn't be that hard ;)

Riiight, I bet that's why it took me months to make my CSS work in IE :D

Yo, cheers guys, i had alot of problem choosing the colours really, i knew i wanted dark colours for a background colour...but didnt want to use the obvious black, grey or dark blue so i went with a pooie brown :D hehe, looks good though i think, goes well with the top bit.

Yes, its going to be made in CSS and XHTML, any ideas on the blog? as i havent made a blog before, and dont know how to go about it, use PHP? XML? what? i would really like to use xml, it looks like its the new thing now, with the RSS feeds.

Im also making a portfolio using similar colours, and it will be very expermental as i dont want it to be a plain site, that people have seen before.

Thanks for the comments, but keep them coming, and if you have any problems with it, tell me :D cheers

I havent made it up yet, i just did that in photoshop...i always plan my layouts in photoshop first, get it nice, then split it up :D Thats my problem...i need to know what is best way to make a blog..php or xhtml? any ideas?

wow simply superb. nice color schemes

Cheers pal, im glad you said that, as i really struggled choosing them. I heard a saying once saying... " Its hard for a designer to make his own identity" and it is! :(

either use wordpress or movable type, clearly the best two :)

I like it alot, and my only contructive criticism is the shadow for the right colum onto the left, and the grunde effects look to obvious. I mean, it looks exactly like a brush set.

Also, xml is a format to export as, you don't run your blog using it. PHP is a oop language, which Wordpress uses to run. XHTML is the coding language you'll make your blog in. CSS controls the styling.

"..to make his own identity" and it is! :(on that note, I've seen much of the diagonal line tile style of backdrops elsewhere, like what you have, so maybe you could consider changing it but it's still ok. The rest is still effin bloody nice [say in brit accent]!

Say do you use ColorImpact? www.tigercolor.com ? =)

hmmm i guess....but not all of that is a brush set, its just some fancy fonts, and also i scanned in a bit of paper (crinkled paper) and got selection tool and cut bits off it, to get the dirty feel. The only brushes are the tiny bits of writing u see in brown and the grundge corner on the left.

I think the shadow on the column looks ok....not much else i can change, to make it look good :\.

Yes, i know what you mean about the backdrop...but i cant think of nothing else :( its really hard lol, especially for my first go at a blog, my ideas arnt there lol. Ill give it a go in css/html tomorrow, and post it in a few weeks time.

Jay, in that blank space on the top right just under the banner I think you could put something there like a navigation or something like that then it'll look great!

Whoa Jay, sorry that I didnt post on this earlier.

The simple answer is XHTML/CSS. You can still use PHP for some backend cool stuff if you want. XHTML and PHP do mix. If you were making a movie, this is what you would do:

XHTML: The script. It structures the site
CSS: The art director. It chooses colors, etc.
PHP: The technician. It does things like comments, calender, etc.
JavaScript: CGI developer (like John Geata from The Matrix). It does the cool things.

That's what you would do. This layout would be easy with that structure. If you need help on how to lay it out, PM me bro :)

Cheers bud!, ive decided im going to firstly create it in html/css/php/mysql, using html tables to position things, as my CSS knowledge of positioning isnt that strong, and im trying to learn it, slowly :D and like you said, use CSS to choose colours, fonts etc and using PHP / MySql for the blog itself, such as articles, comment system and yes, the calendar :D

Kristopher

Tables are not looked favorably upon the Web Standards world (for structure purposes), but it's not that bad to use them if you have to. My site, www.krisgosser.com, uses CSS Transitional, which is the term for using tables WITH css to structure stuff. Maybe that's what you'll want to do?

Take a look at my code on the site, if you are interested.

HTML: http://www.krisgosser.com > View > Source
CSS: http://www.krisgosser.com/cssstyle3.css

Yes, i do want to try it with CSS, but as im not that strong on it, and still earning it, i cant really afford to wait till i've learnt CSS to complete my site, as i am planning to open this site in about a few weeks time, maybe before christmas or end of December.

Thanks Kris, ill check out your source code and see how the 'master's do it :P hehe

Guys...im struggling on choosing a freeware blog script, that allows....

- Monthly Archives
- Catagories, so that posts will be catagorised under a certain section
- Comment system
- CMS - so that i can post the articles online.

Any ideas? Any of you Kirupa members got any good blog scripts that can do that? I really need help
