just wondering, what's up with non-dos partitions, i mean, you cant use them for anything, right?
my friend's hd seems abit cranky, when i use fdisk there's always a 10% ending up as non-dos partition after i create primary and secondary with logical drives in the ratio 50% 50% (it'll become 35% 55%)
any idea why?
on a similar note, when displaying the partitions the secondary drive shows that it's usage is onlt 50%, wheras I had used maximum space for the logical drive :S

sometimes on newer computers - they reserve a certain space for recovery files etc. that you can mess with - but really arent supposed to...

Yeah, but it won't go over 5 GB..
And personally, I want it gone.. 'cause it proved useless so far..
You know of a way that unhides the recovery partition? So that I can delete it later?

hm yea i've given partition magic a go, but it's not freeware :( and can it be used in DOS?
I just realised that i was using the fdisk on a win98se bootdisk, and it probably still is the old fdisk which didnt support hds greater than 64GB. it worked before for my 80gb, though. however, now i tried using Free Fdisk and it worked perfectly.

Kinda off-topic I guess, but I use the (R)ecovery (I)s (P)ossible (http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/) linux system for all rescue work - it really works well, I recommend it wholeheartedly.

umm, why one earth are you using fdisk? it is a lousy program that can't even accomplish basic tasks non-destrutivly, just do a google search and find a decent program, hell, even the windows xp partioner is better....

maybe because I am using a win98se bootdisk to boot the comp since there is no OS on it, and that means no windows xp on it, which means no windows xp partitioner. and like i mentioned, it worked perfectly before, so im not too sure what you mean by "accomplish basic tasks non-destrutivly" :) oh and there's the consideration that it's free, and having used it before I trust that it'll get the job done. too many freeware out there to believe that all of them are trustworthy.
