I was wondering how some of these people on this site are so good at Flash?
Do you go to school for it?

That (could be)... and they PRACTICE!

Read books, do tutorials, experiment, etc...

Probably because many members of the kForum are professional designers/programmers and get paid quite a lot to do this. Theyt have to be good.

this site along with making lots of mistakes and learning from them has probably been the biggest contributors for me.

Im not professional at Flash yet, but iv learnt the basics, and I continue learning more by doing tutorials, reading the Flash MX & Flash MX 2004 threads in this forum gives you help, and the good old trial & error helps too...trust me when i first opend flash and started using it I thought id never be able to do just the basics...

Well, I'm no chump at flash. I've been using it for about 2 years now, but I find action script and creating my own xml very difficult.

That's ok, rugget. I've been using Flash since I was a senior in High School (three years ago). I've become pretty good/professional with the design/layout stuff, but I still struggle tremendously with the AS/backend part. That's because I'm a designer. Eventhough I spend a 2:1 ratio of time from coding:designing.

Sometimes, one might just not have the intuition for that respective part. Coding is mine. Maybe it's the same for you?

Being good at flash is different for some people. Some have the gift of just understanding all the [code] and what not and head deeper using OOP and other language intergration. Some just need to pratice and then they become good. Others take a little longer but eventually get there. Realisticely, you are good at designing, good at coding or both as well. Just note those you think are "good" dont know everything about it, they just know enough for their work. Theres nothing wrong with books either. They help to give you a foundation to the basic fundementals of how Flash works like variables (which helps you to better understand whats going on). Its just that they dont teach you everything, they only lead the way, you have to walk through it. Your limit to what you can do is only your imagination. \

I say dont give up, ever.

Well I suck at flash. I haven't really even done anything flash for a couple of months. I'm just here for the conversation!

Actually, I do plan on getting back into it after a while. I just burnt myself out trying to learn it and decided to take a little break. I do have to say that while I was on my quest to improve my flash work that I did it in leaps and bounds. My best advice to you is to keep everything that you do. This way you will be able to see your progress as you grow better and better. That really helped me. When I would look back on my earlier stuff, I would think "Wow, I sucked then, but i'm better now"

...other way 'round, I'd say.
We're really good at it, therefore we make a business out of it and get paid heaps :D
We get good at it because Flash is one of the nicest programs out there. So versatile, so worth the learning. I personally learned from experience (ie. trial and error), because back then (1999), my internet access was limited (dialup - ties up phone line, etc), therefore I couldn't freely access tutorials or talk on forums :( So it was just me and the Flash 3 help files. Five years later... http://www.ya3.has.it :D

As someone said, books - quite frankly - are boring. You need to learn at your own pace.

That's my $0.02

EDIT:
Greenlantern: Nice sig. I SO want GDSTH to take off! a l33t-speak term that originated on KF. omg, that'd be so good!

I think my problem is that I'm really not interested in codes and html, things like that. I just like building thing by my eye. But I guess thats a problem if you want to make really cool looking ****.
